West Syriac historiography is believed to have been quite scanty as well because, according to Lawrence Conrad's theory, the only source that later Syriac chroniclers had for this period was Theophilos of Edessa, whose chronicle is commonly thought to be Theophanes' "oriental source" as well. A thorough study of the materials shared by Theophanes (IX cent.), Michael the Syrian (XII cent.), the anonymous chronicler of 1234 (XII-XIII cent.) and Agapius of Mabbug (X cent.) has led the author of this book to reconsider the theory of the "circuit of Theophilos of Edessa" and to look with new eyes at the whole question of the writing of history in Greek, Syriac and Arabic during the first two centuries after the Islamic conquests. The present work delves into this conspicuous case of "intercultural transmission" with the aim of finding some tentative answers to the unspoken questions due to our scarce knowledge of historiography in such a crucial period: who kept memory of what, why, for whom? in which forms were records produced, preserved and transmitted? how did religious issues influence this practice and how did these materials cross denominational borders? 410 0$aMillennium-Studien ;$vBd. 47. 606 $aIslam$xHistoriography 606 $aIslam$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aHistoriography 610 $aByzantine and Syriac chronicles. 610 $aEarly Islamic age. 610 $aIntercultural transmission. 615 0$aIslam$xHistoriography. 615 0$aIslam$xHistory 615 0$aHistoriography. 676 $a909/.0976701 700 $aConterno$b Maria$0997815 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910341841303321 996 $aLa "descrizione dei tempi" all'alba dell'espansione islamica$92288432 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01306nas 2200457- 450 001 9910507985403321 005 20230609213018.0 011 $a2589-8019 035 $a(OCoLC)1286461114 035 $a(CKB)4100000012136683 035 $a(CONSER)--2023242075 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB3102313-7 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000012136683 100 $a20211117a20089999 --- - 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aChallenging glass conference proceedings 210 1$aDelft :$cTU Delft Open,$d2008- 215 $a1 online resource 300 $aRefereed/Peer-reviewed 311 08$a2589-8000 517 1 $aCGC proceedings 517 1 $aCG proceedings 517 1 $aChallenging glass 606 $aGlass construction$vPeriodicals 606 $aArchitectural glass$vPeriodicals 606 $aGlass$vPeriodicals 606 $aGlass$vCongresses 608 $aSerial publications.$2lcgft 615 0$aGlass construction 615 0$aArchitectural glass 615 0$aGlass 615 0$aGlass 712 02$aTechnische Universiteit Delft, 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910507985403321 996 $aChallenging Glass Conference Proceedings$92426090 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03477oam 22006494a 450 001 9910268954703321 005 20240522181040.0 010 $a9780520968875 010 $a0520968875 024 7 $a10.1525/luminos.45 035 $a(CKB)4100000003666481 035 $a(OAPEN)649674 035 $a(DE-B1597)539685 035 $a(OCoLC)1028980512 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780520968875 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse72985 035 $a(ScCtBLL)c898a5d4-f0d7-4ada-bbb3-48320b708b7c 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/31591 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC31594311 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL31594311 035 $a(Perlego)4431418 035 $a(Perlego)2329513 035 $a(oapen)doab29776 035 $a(oapen)doab31591 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000003666481 100 $a20170918h20182018 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurmu#---auuuu 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 14$aThe Erotics of History$eAn Atlantic African Example /$fDonald L. Rather, Donald L. Donham argues that historical circumstance, local social pressure, and the cultural construction of much beyond sex condition the erotic. Donham makes this argument in relation to the centuries-old conversation on the fetish, applied to a highly unusual neighborhood in Atlantic Africa. There, local men, soon to be married to local women, are involved in long-term sexual relationships with European men. On the African side, these couplings are motivated by the pleasures of cosmopolitan connection and foreign commodities. On the other side, Europeans tend to fetishize Africans' race, while a few search to become slaves in master/ slave relationships. At its most wide ranging, The Erotics of History attempts to show that it is history, both personal and collective, in reversals and reenactments, that finally produces sexual excitement."--Provided by publisher. 606 $aSex role$zAfrica$xHistory 606 $aErotica$zAfrica$xHistory 606 $aFetishism (Sexual behavior)$zAfrica$xHistory 607 $aAfrica$xSocial conditions$xHistory 607 $aAfrica$xSexual behavior$xHistory 615 0$aSex role$xHistory. 615 0$aErotica$xHistory. 615 0$aFetishism (Sexual behavior)$xHistory. 676 $a305.3096 700 $aDonham$b Donald L$g(Donald Lewis),$01023713 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910268954703321 996 $aThe Erotics of History$92432303 997 $aUNINA
