Often music in Europe is defined by its relation to the concept of Occidentalism (Musik im Abendland; western music). The emphasis here turns rather to recent manifestations of its evolvement in ensembles, events, musical organisations and ideas; questions of unity and diversity from Bergen to Tel Aviv, from Lisbon to Baku; and deals with the tension between local, regional and national music within the larger confluence of European music. The status of classical and avante-garde music, and to a degree rock and pop, during Europe's development the past sixty years are also reviewed within the context of eurocentrism - the domination of European music within world music, a term propagated by anthropologists and ethnomusicologists several decades ago and based on multiculturalism. Conversely, the search for a musical European identity and the ways in which this search has in turn been influenced by multiculturalism is an ongoing, dynamic process. 410 0$aDiscourses on intellectual Europe ;$vVolume 2. 606 $aMusic$xSocial aspects$zEurope 610 $aEthnomusicology. 610 $aEuropean identity. 610 $aMulticulturalism. 615 0$aMusic$xSocial aspects 676 $a780.94/0904 702 $aRiethmu?ller$b Albrecht 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910437651103321 996 $aThe role of music in European integration$91940946 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02478nam 22005293a 450 001 9910340843303321 005 20250203235513.0 010 $a9789462984516 010 $a9462984514 035 $a(CKB)4100000009277040 035 $a(OAPEN)1005402 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/38612 035 $a(ScCtBLL)a1293c42-ef9d-4051-8e08-d7aa2188fec7 035 $a(OCoLC)1135855473 035 $a(oapen)doab38612 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000009277040 100 $a20250203i20172020 uu 101 0 $adut 135 $auuuuu---auuuu 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aWereld van verschil$fNaomi Ellemers 210 $aAmsterdam$cAmsterdam University Press$d2017 210 1$aAmsterdam :$cAmsterdam University Press,$d2017. 215 $a1 online resource (120) 311 08$a9789048535187 311 08$a9048535182 330 $aPublic debates tend to see social inequality as resulting from individual decisions people make, for instance with respect to their education or lifestyle. Solutions are often sought in supporting individuals to make better choices. This neglects the importance of social groups and communities in determining individual outcomes. A moral perspective on social inequality questions the fairness of insisting on individual responsibilities, when members of some groups systematically receive fewer opportunities than others. The essays in this book have been prepared by experts from different disciplines, ranging from philosophy to engineering, and from economics to epidemiology. On the basis of recent scientific insights, World of Difference examines how group memberships impact on individual outcomes in four key domains: health, education and work, migration, and the environment. This offers a new moral perspective on social inequality, which policy makers tend to neglect. 606 $aEthics & moral philosophy$2bicssc 610 $aSocial inequality 610 $aMorality 610 $aGroup-level processes 610 $aScientific perspective 610 $ahealth 610 $aeducation 610 $awork 610 $aenvironment 610 $amigration 615 7$aEthics & moral philosophy 700 $aEllemers$b Naomi$01228093 801 0$bScCtBLL 801 1$bScCtBLL 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910340843303321 996 $aWereld van verschil$93399384 997 $aUNINA
