On the basis of data from the World Values Survey, the Arab Barometer Project and the Arab Opinion Index, the author compares the dynamics of Muslim opinion structures with global publics and arrives at social scientific predictions of value change in the region. Using country factor scores from a variety of surveys, the author also develops composite indices of support for democracy and a liberal society on a global level and in the Muslim world, and analyzes a multivariate model of opinion structures in the Arab world, based on over 40 variables from 12 countries in the Arab League and covering 67% of the total population of the Arab countries. While being optimistic about the general, long-term trend towards democracy and the resilience of Arab and Muslim civil society against Islamism, the author also highlights anti-semitic trends in the region and discusses them in the larger context of xenophobia in traditional societies. . 410 0$aPerspectives on Development in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region,$x2520-1247 606 $aMiddle East$xPolitics and government 606 $aCulture 606 $aSocial sciences$xStatistical methods 606 $aPolitical science 606 $aMiddle East$xEconomic conditions 606 $aAfrica, North$xEconomic conditions 606 $aSex 606 $aMiddle Eastern Politics 606 $aSociology of Culture 606 $aStatistics in Social Sciences, Humanities, Law, Education, Behavorial Sciences, Public Policy 606 $aPolitical Science 606 $aMiddle Eastern/North African Economics 606 $aGender Studies 615 0$aMiddle East$xPolitics and government. 615 0$aCulture. 615 0$aSocial sciences$xStatistical methods. 615 0$aPolitical science. 615 0$aMiddle East$xEconomic conditions. 615 0$aAfrica, North$xEconomic conditions. 615 0$aSex. 615 14$aMiddle Eastern Politics. 615 24$aSociology of Culture. 615 24$aStatistics in Social Sciences, Humanities, Law, Education, Behavorial Sciences, Public Policy. 615 24$aPolitical Science. 615 24$aMiddle Eastern/North African Economics. 615 24$aGender Studies. 676 $a320.550917671 700 $aGrinin$b Leonid$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0897774 702 $aKorotayev$b Andrey 702 $aTausch$b Arno 702 $aAchilov$b Dilshod 801 0$bMiFhGG 801 1$bMiFhGG 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910338028703321 996 $aIslamism, Arab Spring, and the Future of Democracy$94334042 997 $aUNINA
