It aims to provide the reader with an appraisal of the most problematic aspects connected with the participation of a sui generis legal subject such as the EU to international dispute settlement mechanisms in a State-centric international law. In particular, the publication dwells on the question of how to make possible an effective participation in disputes while at the same time preserving the specific characteristics (i.e. the autonomy) of the EU legal order. It does so by outlining different models and proposing the internalization model adopted under EU investment agreements as a possible paradigm. It is aimed at academics, practitioners and graduate students as well as EU officials and judges who should find the issues discussed both useful and of interest for staying up-to-date on the scholarly discussion and of their relevance to case law. Luca Pantaleo is a Lecturer in International and European Law at The Hague University of Applied Sciences in The Netherlands. He obtained a PhD in International and EU Law in 2013 at the University of Macerata in Italy and was previously a Senior Researcher at the T.M.C. Asser Institute and Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Luxembourg. 606 $aLaw$xEurope 606 $aMediation 606 $aDispute resolution (Law) 606 $aConflict management 606 $aInternational law 606 $aInvestments, Foreign$xLaw and legislation$zEuropean Union countries 606 $aTrade 606 $aHuman rights 606 $aEuropean Law$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/R20000 606 $aDispute Resolution, Mediation, Arbitration$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/R22000 606 $aInternational Economic Law, Trade Law$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/R19050 606 $aHuman Rights$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/R19020 606 $aSources and Subjects of International Law, International Organizations$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/R19010 615 0$aLaw$xEurope. 615 0$aMediation. 615 0$aDispute resolution (Law). 615 0$aConflict management. 615 0$aInternational law. 615 0$aInvestments, Foreign$xLaw and legislation 615 0$aTrade. 615 0$aHuman rights. 615 14$aEuropean Law. 615 24$aDispute Resolution, Mediation, Arbitration. 615 24$aInternational Economic Law, Trade Law. 615 24$aHuman Rights. 615 24$aSources and Subjects of International Law, International Organizations. 676 $a341.2422 700 $aPantaleo$b Luca$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0781538 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910337824903321 996 $aThe Participation of the EU in International Dispute Settlement$92516778 997 $aUNINA
