Die mangelnde Trennschärfe zwischen Einstellungen gegenüber Menschen auf der einen und einer Religion auf der anderen Seite manifestiert sich etwa in Definitionen, in denen Islam und Muslim*innen in scheinbar untrennbarer Art und Weise zueinander konstruiert werden oder im Operationalisierungsprozess, wenn auf manifester Ebene Einstellungen gegenüber Muslim*innen erhoben werden, das Konstrukt jedoch als Islamfeindlichkeit bezeichnet wird. Diese Studie untersucht, (1) ob eine synonyme Verwendung der Begriffe gerechtfertigt ist oder ob sich empirisch nachweisen lässt, dass Islam- und Muslim*innenfeindlichkeit nicht identisch sind, (2) inwiefern Unterschiede im Ausmaß feindlicher Einstellungen gegenüber dem Islam und gegenüber Muslim*innen bestehen und (3) wie sich Deutungsrahmen der Befragten mit den Begriffen 'Islam' und 'Muslim*innen' voneinander unterscheiden.
