However, in the aftermath of recent U.S. elections, whiteness also seems to embody strictures on religion, ethnicity, country of origin, and almost any other personal characteristic deemed suspect at the moment. For that reason, gender, race, and even class, collectively, may not be sufficient units of analysis to study the marginalizing mechanisms of the urban center. The authors interrogate the social and institutional structures that facilitate the disenfranchisement or downward trajectory of groups, and their potential or subsequent lack of access to mainstream rewards. The book also seeks to highlight examples where marginalized groups have found ways to assert their equality. No recent texts have attempted to connect the mechanisms of marginality across geographical and political boundaries within the Western Hemisphere. 410 0$aNeighborhoods, Communities, and Urban Marginality 606 $aSociology, Urban 606 $aEthnicity 606 $aUrban geography 606 $aSocial structure 606 $aEquality 606 $aRacism in the social sciences 606 $aUrban Studies/Sociology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22250 606 $aEthnicity Studies$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22180 606 $aUrban Geography / Urbanism (inc. megacities, cities, towns)$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/J15010 606 $aSocial Structure, Social Inequality$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22010 606 $aSociology of Racism$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22260 615 0$aSociology, Urban. 615 0$aEthnicity. 615 0$aUrban geography. 615 0$aSocial structure. 615 0$aEquality. 615 0$aRacism in the social sciences. 615 14$aUrban Studies/Sociology. 615 24$aEthnicity Studies. 615 24$aUrban Geography / Urbanism (inc. megacities, cities, towns). 615 24$aSocial Structure, Social Inequality. 615 24$aSociology of Racism. 676 $a305.56 702 $aBrug$b Peary$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aRitter$b Zachary S$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aRoth$b Kenneth R$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910337724903321 996 $aMarginality in the Urban Center$92527868 997 $aUNINA
