The material conditions of the early modern world brought humans and animals into complex interspecies relationships that have not been fully accounted for in critical readings of the period's philosophical, scientific, or literary representations of animals. Where such prior readings have focused on the role of reason in debates about human exceptionalism, this book turns instead to a series of cultural sites in which we find animal and human bodies sharing environments, mutually transforming and defining one another's lives. To uncover the animal body's role in anatomy, eroticism, architecture, labor, and consumption, Karen Raber analyzes canonical works including More's Utopia, Shakespeare's Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet, and Sidney's poetry, situating them among readings of human and equine anatomical texts, medical recipes, theories of architecture and urban design, husbandry manuals, and horsemanship treatises. Raber reconsiders interactions between environment, body, and consciousness that we find in early modern human-animal relations. Scholars of the Renaissance period recognized animals' fundamental role in fashioning what we call "culture," she demonstrates, providing historical narratives about embodiment and the cultural constructions of species difference that are often overlooked in ecocritical and posthumanist theory that attempts to address the "question of the animal." 410 0$aHaney Foundation series. 606 $aAnimal intelligence$xPhilosophy$xHistory$y16th century 606 $aAnimal intelligence$xPhilosophy$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aAnimals (Philosophy)$zEurope$xHistory$y16th century 606 $aAnimals (Philosophy)$zEurope$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aHuman beings$xAnimal nature$xHistory$y16th century 606 $aHuman beings$xAnimal nature$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aHuman-animal relationships$zEurope$xHistory$y16th century 606 $aHuman-animal relationships$zEurope$xHistory$y17th century 610 $aCultural Studies. 610 $aLiterature. 610 $aMedieval and Renaissance Studies. 615 0$aAnimal intelligence$xPhilosophy$xHistory 615 0$aAnimal intelligence$xPhilosophy$xHistory 615 0$aAnimals (Philosophy)$xHistory 615 0$aAnimals (Philosophy)$xHistory 615 0$aHuman beings$xAnimal nature$xHistory 615 0$aHuman beings$xAnimal nature$xHistory 615 0$aHuman-animal relationships$xHistory 615 0$aHuman-animal relationships$xHistory 676 $a113/.8 700 $aRaber$b Karen$f1961-$01547098 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910787657803321 996 $aAnimal bodies, Renaissance culture$93815217 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03850nam 22005175 450 001 9910337510403321 005 20200704044720.0 010 $a3-030-01195-X 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-030-01195-6 035 $a(CKB)4100000007204735 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5613426 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-030-01195-6 035 $a(PPN)232966761 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000007204735 100 $a20181210d2019 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aCompression and Chronic Wound Management /$fedited by Raj Mani, Kittipan Rerkasem, Harikrishna K.R. It describes the growing health burden caused by these lesions with vast sums spent on wound management and its associated complexities around the world. Since compression is the mainstay of treatment in venous conditions ranging from varicose veins through venous leg ulcers, the authors have also evaluated the use of compression techniques in the successful management of lymphoedema and certain orthopaedic conditions. Compression and Chronic Wound Management provides a balanced text on how to apply scientific knowledge to ensure pragmatic clinical practice. It therefore represents an essential resource for residents, specialists and researchers in wound management, whether they are dermatologist, vascular medicine physicians and surgeons, or orthopaedic practitioners. . 606 $aDermatology 606 $aBlood-vessels$xSurgery 606 $aDermatology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/H1900X 606 $aVascular Surgery$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/H59133 615 0$aDermatology. 615 0$aBlood-vessels$xSurgery. 615 14$aDermatology. 615 24$aVascular Surgery. 676 $a610.73 676 $a617.14 702 $aMani$b Raj$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aRerkasem$b Kittipan$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aNair$b Harikrishna K.R$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aShukla$b Vijay$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910337510403321 996 $aCompression and Chronic Wound Management$91737383 997 $aUNINA
