Ici l'honneur n'est pas un simple assemblage de traits culturels. C'est une valeur qui régit les échanges de violence entre hommes et les rapports de pouvoir à l'intérieur d'une structure segmentaire. Valeur liée à l'Islam, la baraka est cette « force divine » qui définit les relations entre les hommes et Dieu par l'intermédiaire des chorfa considérés comme descendants du prophète Mahomet. Vivant parmi les tribus, ceux-ci agissent comme médiateurs dans les affaires d'honneur. Au centre de ces deux systèmes d'échanges et de relations, et permettant leur articulation, se trouve un terme commun : les domaines de l'interdit ou du haram (femme, terre et territoire), à la fois le lieu de l'honneur et domaine de la baraka. L'analyse de la médiation sacrée et des rituels de paix met en évidence la complémentarité hiérarchique entre les relations de subordination spirituelle de l'ordre de la baraka et les relations d'égalité segmentaire où, joue l'honneur. Seule autorité à allier dans sa personne violence et baraka, le sultan, Commandeur des Croyants, symbolise cette complémentarité au niveau du Maroc. Comme « élu » de Dieu, il légitime aussi les groupes tribaux dans leurs valeurs essentielles. Cette analyse est confirmée dans une dernière partie, où l'auteur montre que les cérémonies de mariage sont une sorte de mise en scène parodique du système idéologique dans toutes ses dimensions.
