So far, most studies of the 1965 violence have focused on the Muslim majority population of Java and the Hindu majority population of Bali. Forbidden Memories presents stories from across the regions of Sumba, Sabu, Alor, Kupang and other parts of West Timor of women who were imprisoned and tortured or whose husbands were murdered. The book comprises a critical examination of the role of the Protestant Church at the time of the violence and, in its aftermath, the ongoing sanctions and political purges against those considered to be supporters of the Indonesian Communist Party. The writers argue that religious and state institutions failed to care for this vulnerable community in the face of state terrorism and a culture of fear. 410 0$aHerb Feith Translation Series 606 $aWar victims$xAbuse of$zIndonesia$vPersonal narratives 606 $aWomen$xAbuse of$zIndonesia 607 $aIndonesia$xHistory$yCoup d'e?tat, 1965$vPersonal narratives 607 $aNusa Tenggara Timur (Indonesia)$xHistory$y20th century 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aWar victims$xAbuse of 615 0$aWomen$xAbuse of 676 $a305.409598 702 $aKolimon$b Mery 702 $aWetangterah$b Liliya 702 $aCampbell-Nelson$b Karen 702 $aLindsay$b Jennifer 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910315236303321 996 $aForbidden memories$91932341 997 $aUNINA
