Distinct national traditions emerged and institutes were founded, partly due to collaborations with the military. Researchers in the cultural sciences used war zones to gain access to »informants«: prisoner-of-war and refugee camps, occupied territories, even the front lines. Anthropologists tailored their inquiries to aid the war effort, contributed to interpretations of the war as a »struggle« between »races«, and assessed the »warlike« nature of the Balkan region, whose crises were key to the outbreak of the Great War. 330 1 $a»[The] combination of carefully developed specific points of research and thorough reexamination of paradigmatic theoretical models should make this volume an indispensable reading and an important point of reference for years to come.« Aleksandar Boskovic, Anthropos, 107 (2012) »Der thematisch konzentrierte, aber ra?umlich weit ausgreifende Sammelband vermittelt einen anschaulichen und differenzierten U?berblick u?ber die Bedeutung, die der Erste Weltkrieg fu?r die Herausbildung der Disziplinen Volks-/Vo?lkerkunde (Anthropology) hatte.« Silke Go?ttsch-Elten, H-Soz-u-Kult, 18.02.2011 Reviewed in: European Association of Social Anthropologists, (2011), Marius Turda Kwartalnik Historyczny, 2 (2013), Aleksandra Rodziska-Chojnowska Zeitschrift fu?r die Geschichte des Oberrheins, 161/122 (2013), Rainer Bru?ning 410 0$aHistoire (Transcript (Firm)) ;$vBand 12. 606 $aAnthropology$xResearch$zEurope$y20th century 606 $aWorld War, 1914-1918$xSocial aspects 606 $aEthnology$xResearch$zEurope$y20th century 610 $aCultural History. 610 $aCulture. 610 $aEurope. 610 $aEuropean History. 610 $aHistory of Science. 610 $aHistory of the 20th Century. 610 $aHistory. 610 $aScience. 610 $aWar. 610 $aWorld War I. 615 0$aAnthropology$xResearch 615 0$aWorld War, 1914-1918$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aEthnology$xResearch 676 $a306.094 702 $aScheer$b Monique 702 $aMarchetti$b Christian 702 $aJohler$b Reinhard 712 02$aKollektion-Knowledge Unlatched Auswahl 2018 BL$4fnd$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/fnd 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910315234103321 996 $aDoing Anthropology in Wartime and War Zones$92122894 997 $aUNINA
