Masyumi proposed a vision of society and government which was not bound by a literalist application of Islamic doctrine but rather inspired by the values of Islam. It set out moderate policies which were tolerant towards other religious communities in Indonesia. Its achievements were nonetheless precarious: it was eventually outlawed in 1960. Many of its leaders then turned to integralism, a radical doctrine echoing certain characteristics of 19th-century Catholic integralism, which contributed to the advent of Muslim neo-fundamentalism in Indonesia. This book examines the Masyumi Party from its roots in early 20th-century Muslim reformism to its contemporary legacy. 606 $aIslam and state$zIndonesia$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aIslam and politics$zIndonesia$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aPolitical parties$zIndonesia$xHistory$y20th century 607 $aIndonesia$xPolitics and government$y1942-1949 607 $aIndonesia$xPolitics and government$y1950-1966 608 $aElectronic books. 610 $aHistory 615 0$aIslam and state$xHistory 615 0$aIslam and politics$xHistory 615 0$aPolitical parties$xHistory 676 $a297.09598 700 $aMadinier$b Remy$0707381 702 $aDesmond$b Jeremy 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910306653403321 996 $aIslam and politics in Indonesia$91548578 997 $aUNINA
