The term fault generically refers to any type of process degradation, or degradation in equipment performance because of changes in the process's physical characteristics, process inputs or environmental conditions. This book is about the fundamentals of fault detection and diagnosis in a variety of nonlinear systems which are represented by ordinary differential equations. The fault detection problem is approached from a differential algebraic viewpoint, using residual generators based upon high-gain nonlinear auxiliary systems (?observers?). A prominent role is played by the type of mathematical tools that will be used, requiring knowledge of differential algebra and differential equations. Specific theorems tailored to the needs of the problem-solving procedures are developed and proved. Applications to real-world problems, both with constant and time-varying faults, are made throughout the book and include electromechanical positioning systems, the Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR), bioreactor models and belt drive systems, to name but a few. 410 0$aUnderstanding Complex Systems,$x1860-0832 606 $aVibration 606 $aDynamics 606 $aDynamics 606 $aStatistical physics 606 $aIndustrial engineering 606 $aProduction engineering 606 $aMathematical physics 606 $aVibration, Dynamical Systems, Control$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/T15036 606 $aApplications of Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos Theory$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P33020 606 $aIndustrial and Production Engineering$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/T22008 606 $aMathematical Applications in the Physical Sciences$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M13120 615 0$aVibration. 615 0$aDynamics. 615 0$aDynamics. 615 0$aStatistical physics. 615 0$aIndustrial engineering. 615 0$aProduction engineering. 615 0$aMathematical physics. 615 14$aVibration, Dynamical Systems, Control. 615 24$aApplications of Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos Theory. 615 24$aIndustrial and Production Engineering. 615 24$aMathematical Applications in the Physical Sciences. 676 $a620 700 $aMartinez-Guerra$b Rafael$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0791790 702 $aMata-Machuca$b Juan Luis$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910300383003321 996 $aFault Detection and Diagnosis in Nonlinear Systems$92508272 997 $aUNINA
