A cross-section of popular demand forecasting algorithms from statistics, machine learning and mathematics is presented, followed by extreme value theory techniques with examples. In order to achieve carbon targets, good forecasts of peaks are essential. For instance, shifting demand or charging battery depends on correct demand predictions in time. Majority of forecasting algorithms historically were focused on average load prediction. In order to model the peaks, methods from extreme value theory are applied. This allows us to study extremes without making any assumption on the central parts of demand distribution and to predict beyond the range of available data. While applied on individual loads, the techniques described in this book can be extended naturally to substations, or to commercial settings. Extreme value theory techniques presented can be also used across other disciplines, for example for predicting heavy rainfalls, wind speed, solar radiation and extreme weather events. The book is intended for students, academics, engineers and professionals that are interested in short term load prediction, energy data analytics, battery control, demand side response and data science in general. . 410 0$aSpringerBriefs in Mathematics of Planet Earth, Weather, Climate, Oceans,$x2509-7326 606 $aMathematics 606 $aStatistics  606 $aEnergy efficiency 606 $aAlgorithms 606 $aEnergy systems 606 $aMathematics of Planet Earth$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M36000 606 $aStatistical Theory and Methods$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/S11001 606 $aEnergy Efficiency$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/118000 606 $aAlgorithms$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M14018 606 $aEnergy Systems$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/115000 610 $aMathematics 610 $aStatistics  610 $aEnergy efficiency 610 $aAlgorithms 610 $aEnergy systems 615 0$aMathematics. 615 0$aStatistics . 615 0$aEnergy efficiency. 615 0$aAlgorithms. 615 0$aEnergy systems. 615 14$aMathematics of Planet Earth. 615 24$aStatistical Theory and Methods. 615 24$aEnergy Efficiency. 615 24$aAlgorithms. 615 24$aEnergy Systems. 676 $a519 700 $aJacob$b Maria$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0985113 702 $aNeves$b Cláudia$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 702 $aVukadinovi? Jews at war -- The Jewish soldier of World War I: from participant to victim -- The world wars as Jewish wars -- 1948 as a Jewish world war. 330 $aJews and the Military is the first comprehensive and comparative look at Jews' involvement in the military and their attitudes toward war from the 1600's until the creation of the state of Israel in 1948. Derek Penslar shows that although Jews have often been described as people who shun the army, in fact they have frequently been willing, even eager, to do military service, and only a minuscule minority have been pacifists. Penslar demonstrates that Israel's military ethos did not emerge from a vacuum and that long before the state's establishment, Jews had a vested interest in military affairs. Spanning Europe, North America, and the Middle East, Penslar discusses the myths and realities of Jewish draft dodging, how Jews reacted to facing their coreligionists in battle, the careers of Jewish officers and their reception in the Jewish community, the effects of World War I on Jewish veterans, and Jewish participation in the Spanish Civil War and World War II. Penslar culminates with a study of Israel's War of Independence as a Jewish world war, which drew on the military expertise and financial support of a mobilized, global Jewish community. He considers how military service was a central issue in debates about Jewish emancipation and a primary indicator of the position of Jews in any given society. Deconstructing old stereotypes, Jews and the Military radically transforms our understanding of Jews' historic relationship to war and military power. 606 $aJewish soldiers$zEurope$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aJewish soldiers$zEurope$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aJews$zEurope$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aJews$zEurope$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aJews$xCultural assimilation$zEurope$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aJews$xCultural assimilation$zEurope$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aJews$zEurope$xIdentity 610 $aArab states. 610 $aAshkenazic Jews. 610 $aEuropean armies. 610 $aFranco-Prussian War. 610 $aFrench revolutionary wars. 610 $aFrench-Jewish communities. 610 $aGerman-Jewish communities. 610 $aHabsburg armies. 610 $aHolocaust. 610 $aInternational Brigades. 610 $aIsrael. 610 $aIsraeli?alestinian conflict. 610 $aJewish Enlightenment. 610 $aJewish collective memory. 610 $aJewish commonality. 610 $aJewish community. 610 $aJewish emancipation. 610 $aJewish life. 610 $aJewish military careerism. 610 $aJewish military officers. 610 $aJewish military units. 610 $aJewish rights. 610 $aJewish soldier. 610 $aJewish soldiers. 610 $aJewish space. 610 $aJewish wars. 610 $aJewish wartime sensibilities. 610 $aJewish world. 610 $aJewish youth. 610 $aJews. 610 $aMiddle East war. 610 $aNapoleonic France. 610 $aPalestinians. 610 $aPolish Jewry. 610 $aRussian Jewry. 610 $aSecond World War. 610 $aSpanish Civil War. 610 $aTriple Alliance. 610 $aWorld War I. 610 $aWorld War II. 610 $aZionism. 610 $aZionist movement. 610 $aanti-Vietnam War movement. 610 $aantisemitic attacks. 610 $acapital. 610 $acivic virtue. 610 $acivil rights. 610 $aconscription. 610 $acredit. 610 $aequal rights. 610 $aindependence. 610 $ainternational mobilization. 610 $ainternational socialism. 610 $amasculinity. 610 $amilitary career. 610 $amilitary life. 610 $amilitary power. 610 $amilitary service. 610 $amilitary strength. 610 $amilitary. 610 $aparamilitary activities. 610 $apatriotic inclinations. 610 $areligious particularism. 610 $atransnational attachments. 610 $atransnationalist sensibility. 610 $awar. 615 0$aJewish soldiers$xHistory 615 0$aJewish soldiers$xHistory 615 0$aJews$xHistory 615 0$aJews$xHistory 615 0$aJews$xCultural assimilation$xHistory 615 0$aJews$xCultural assimilation$xHistory 615 0$aJews$xIdentity. 676 $a355.0089/92404 700 $aPenslar$b Derek Jonathan$01117003 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910787548303321 996 $aJews and the military$93809460 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03648nam 22006135 450 001 9910300099303321 005 20251230070000.0 010 $a3-319-73639-6 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-319-73639-6 035 $a(CKB)4100000002892270 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5358068 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-319-73639-6 035 $a(PPN)225547589 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000002892270 100 $a20180321d2018 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aSingularities and Foliations.
