Each of the nine contributions adopts a unique perspective on the legal and political challenges brought to the fore by the Global Financial Crisis. This crisis and the ensuing sovereign debt crisis in Europe are only the latest in a long series of financial crises around the globe in recent decades. By their very existence, but also as a result of the political turmoil they have created, these financial crises testify to the well-known tensions between democracy and a market-based economic and financial order. However, what is missing in this debate is an analysis of the role of law for reconciling democracy with a market-based financial order. To fill this lacuna, the book focuses on the controversy surrounding the concept of law, thereby adding another variable to the debate on the relation between democracy and capitalism. Each chapter addresses the concept of law from a particular theoretical angle, be it a full-grown legal theory or an approach in political economy that has a particular view of the law. 410 0$aBeiträge zum ausländischen öffentlichen Recht und Völkerrecht, Veröffentlichungen des Max-Planck-Instituts für ausländisches öffentliches Recht und Völkerrecht,$x0172-4770 ;$v273 606 $aInternational law 606 $aTrade 606 $aLaw?Europe 606 $aFinancial crises 606 $aLaw?Philosophy 606 $aLaw 606 $aEconomic policy 606 $aInternational Economic Law, Trade Law$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/R19050 606 $aEuropean Law$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/R20000 606 $aFinancial Crises$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/617010 606 $aTheories of Law, Philosophy of Law, Legal History$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/R11011 606 $aEconomic Policy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W34010 615 0$aInternational law. 615 0$aTrade. 615 0$aLaw?Europe. 615 0$aFinancial crises. 615 0$aLaw?Philosophy. 615 0$aLaw. 615 0$aEconomic policy. 615 14$aInternational Economic Law, Trade Law. 615 24$aEuropean Law. 615 24$aFinancial Crises. 615 24$aTheories of Law, Philosophy of Law, Legal History. 615 24$aEconomic Policy. 676 $a343.07 702 $aGoldmann$b Matthias$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aSteininger$b Silvia$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910300058303321 996 $aDemocracy and Financial Order: Legal Perspectives$92179760 997 $aUNINA
