These short, multi-themed newsfilms, usually accompanied by explanatory intertitles or voiceovers, were a central part of the filmgoing experience around the world from 1910 through the late 1960s, and in many cases even later. As the only source of moving image news available before the widespread advent of television, newsreels are important social documents, recording what the general public was told and shown about the events and personalities of the day. Often disregarded as quirky or trivial, they were heavily utilised as propaganda vehicles, offering insights into the socio-political norms reflected in cinema during the first half of the twentieth century. The book presents a range of current research being undertaken in newsreel studies internationally and makes a case for a reconsideration of the importance of newsreels in the wider landscape of film history. 410 0$aGlobal Cinema,$x2634-5951 606 $aMotion pictures?History 606 $aMotion pictures 606 $aDocumentary films 606 $aMotion pictures?European influences 606 $aMotion pictures?United States 606 $aFilm History$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/413070 606 $aFilm Theory$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/413090 606 $aDocumentary$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/413050 606 $aEuropean Cinema and TV$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/413060 606 $aAmerican Cinema and TV$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/413010 615 0$aMotion pictures?History. 615 0$aMotion pictures. 615 0$aDocumentary films. 615 0$aMotion pictures?European influences. 615 0$aMotion pictures?United States. 615 14$aFilm History. 615 24$aFilm Theory. 615 24$aDocumentary. 615 24$aEuropean Cinema and TV. 615 24$aAmerican Cinema and TV. 676 $a940.5 702 $aChambers$b Ciara$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aJönsson$b Mats$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aVande Winkel$b Roel$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910300037503321 996 $aResearching Newsreels$91969826 997 $aUNINA
