The book is divided in two parts. In the first part, the authors give an abstract definition of solitary wave and soliton and we develop an abstract existence theory for hylomorphic solitons, namely for those solitons which minimize the energy for a given charge. In the second part, the authors apply this theory to prove the existence of hylomorphic solitons for some classes of field equations (nonlinear Klein-Gordon-Maxwell equations, nonlinear Schrödinger-Maxwell equations, nonlinear beam equation,..). The abstract theory is sufficiently flexible to be applied to other situations, like the existence of vortices. The books is addressed to Mathematicians and Physicists. 410 0$aSpringer Monographs in Mathematics,$x1439-7382 606 $aDifferential equations, Partial 606 $aMathematical analysis 606 $aCalculus 606 $aMathematical physics 606 $aPartial Differential Equations$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M12155 606 $aAnalysis$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M12007 606 $aMathematical Physics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M35000 615 0$aDifferential equations, Partial. 615 0$aMathematical analysis. 615 0$aCalculus. 615 0$aMathematical physics. 615 14$aPartial Differential Equations. 615 24$aAnalysis. 615 24$aMathematical Physics. 676 $a510 676 $a515 676 $a515.353 676 $a530.15 700 $aBenci$b V$g(Vieri),$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$066367 702 $aFortunato$b D$g(Donato),$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910299972803321 996 $aVariational Methods in Nonlinear Field Equations$92499260 997 $aUNINA
