Published a year and a half after an international conference on Crete took place at Montpellier, this book presents the principal results of this meeting and its works. All written or translated in French, some 20 original articles are dealing with the history of the largest Egean Island from the Ancient Times up to the XXth Century. Three major themes organize this book: the natural and cultural symbols and features of Cretan common and subaltern identities; the western learned representations of Creta; the political, religious and strategic importance of an insular frontier and place of arms in the past struggles for the supremacy over the Eastern Mediterranean. 606 $aClassics 606 $aHistory 606 $aarcherie 606 $aauroch 606 $achèvre 606 $acorrida 610 $achèvre 610 $acorrida 610 $aauroch 610 $aarcherie 615 4$aClassics 615 4$aHistory 615 4$aarcherie 615 4$aauroch 615 4$achèvre 615 4$acorrida 700 $aBalivet$b Michel$0674507 701 $aBaratay$b Éric$01285824 701 $aBenoit-Meggenis$b Rosa$01293699 701 $aBile$b Monique$0158764 701 $aBrulé$b Pierre$0384569 701 $aChevrollier$b François$01323780 701 $aDédéyan$b Gérard$0486413 701 $aDelaroche$b Jean-Marie$01323781 701 $aDuchêne$b Hervé$0186305 701 $aGiros$b Christophe$01293700 701 $aHeyriès$b Hubert$01301026 701 $aKossmann$b Perrine$01323782 701 $aLe Quellec$b Jean-Loïc$01323783 701 $aLouvier$b Patrick$01311032 701 $aMonbrun$b Philippe$0476400 701 $aPascual$b Fanny$01323784 701 $aPierrot$b Antoine$01323785 701 $aProst$b Patricia$01323786 701 $aRousseau$b Frédéric$0573260 701 $aTsantiropoulos$b Aris$01323787 701 $aLouvier$b Patrick$01311032 701 $aMonbrun$b Philippe$0476400 701 $aPierrot$b Antoine$01323785 801 0$bFR-FrMaCLE 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910306649003321 996 $aAfti inè i Kriti ! Reshaping Disciplinary Governance through Legal Reform: Lessons from CSM and beyond. 330 $aThis book outlines how community sentences and early release options are administered in China. Chen provides empirical insights into the emerging community sector of the Chinese penal system, and illustrates how Chinese criminal courts decide between imprisonment and community sentences. Drawing on interviews with government and non-governmental supervisors, this methodological and rigorous study offers an in-depth discussion of the enforcement of these community sanctions and measures (CSM). By using the CSM reform as an example, this book illustrates the adaptation of Chinese governance and social control. Ultimately, Chen argues that the current model of governance in China (disciplinary governance) cannot guarantee an effective state-agent relationship; it also denies local governments sufficient legitimacy to secure social stability. Finally, proposing that only the rule of law and an active judiciary can complement these two deficiencies, this book will be of great interest to scholars of criminology, law, and penology, as well as anyone who is interested in how China is held together in a socio-legal sense. 410 0$aPalgrave Advances in Criminology and Criminal Justice in Asia,$x2946-2886 606 $aCriminology 606 $aCorrections 606 $aPunishment 606 $aCrime$xSociological aspects 606 $aAsia$xPolitics and government 606 $aEthnology$zAsia 606 $aCulture 606 $aAsian Criminology 606 $aPrison and Punishment 606 $aCrime and Society 606 $aAsian Politics 606 $aAsian Culture 615 0$aCriminology. 615 0$aCorrections. 615 0$aPunishment. 615 0$aCrime$xSociological aspects. 615 0$aAsia$xPolitics and government. 615 0$aEthnology 615 0$aCulture. 615 14$aAsian Criminology. 615 24$aPrison and Punishment. 615 24$aCrime and Society. 615 24$aAsian Politics. 615 24$aAsian Culture. 676 $a371.394 700 $aChen$b Qi$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0910495 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910299865503321 996 $aGovernance, Social Control and Legal Reform in China$92081485 997 $aUNINA
