The volume offers some unique insights into how these landforms are examined scientifically and how we as humans impact them, offering a global perspective on spit genesis and evolution. Spits are unique natural environments whose evolution is linked to the adjacent coast and nearshore morphology, sediment supply, coastal dynamics and sea-level change. Over the past century, Global Mean Sea Level (GMSL) has risen by 10 to 20 centimetres and many coastal spits represent the first sentinel against coastal submersion. Scientific research indicates that sea levels worldwide have been rising at a rate of 3.5 millimetres per year since the early 1990s, roughly twice the average speed of the preceding 80 years. This trend, linked to global warming will undoubtedly cause major changes in spit morphology. Spits are highly mobile coastal landforms that respond rapidly to environmental change. They therefore represent a signature of past environmental change and provide a landform indicator of climate change. 410 0$aCoastal Research Library,$x2211-0577 ;$v12 606 $aGeomorphology 606 $aGeophysics 606 $aCoasts 606 $aClimatic changes 606 $aNatural disasters 606 $aHistorical geology 606 $aGeomorphology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/J16010 606 $aGeophysics/Geodesy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/G18009 606 $aCoastal Sciences$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/G35020 606 $aClimate Change/Climate Change Impacts$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/313000 606 $aNatural Hazards$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/G32000 606 $aHistorical Geology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/G17020 615 0$aGeomorphology. 615 0$aGeophysics. 615 0$aCoasts. 615 0$aClimatic changes. 615 0$aNatural disasters. 615 0$aHistorical geology. 615 14$aGeomorphology. 615 24$aGeophysics/Geodesy. 615 24$aCoastal Sciences. 615 24$aClimate Change/Climate Change Impacts. 615 24$aNatural Hazards. 615 24$aHistorical Geology. 676 $a526.1 676 $a550 676 $a551 676 $a551.41 676 $a551.6 676 $a551457 676 $a571.7 676 $a910 702 $aRandazzo$b Giovanni$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aJackson$b Derek W.T$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aCooper$b J.
