Policy is Policy and Science is Science: Shall the Twain Ever Meet?. . 330 $aBased on papers and discussions surrounding the international kick-off workshop of the UNU-FLORES institute, held in Dresden, Germany in November, 2013, this book elaborates on key themes of the nexus approach to management of environmental resources- water, soil and waste. The first three chapters address issues of global change and the nexus approach to environmental governance. Discussion includes concepts of poverty-environment nexus, adapative management, questions surrounding inter-sectionality, interactionality and hybridity. Chapters 4, 5 and 6 elaborate on the challenges of financing infrastructure projects, including questions of accountability and autonomy, in the context of decentralization and deregulation. Issues relating to the role of central transfers, taxes and tariffs and potential applications of results-based financing approaches to support sustainable service are also discussed. Chapters 7, 8 and 9 explore strategies for implementation, focusing on European experience with application of life-cycle cost analysis in water and wastewater projects, the use of an agro-ecology framework to support wastewater reuse in agriculture and applications of data visualization techniques for evidence based decision making. The book concludes with a chapter by the editors, whose title expresses perhaps the most difficult question faced by development planners in addressing challenges of global change: Policy is Policy and Science is Science: Shall the Twain Ever Meet? 606 $aSustainable development 606 $aEcology 606 $aRemote sensing 606 $aAgriculture 606 $aSystem theory 606 $aSustainable Development$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/U34000 606 $aEnvironment, general$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/U00009 606 $aRemote Sensing/Photogrammetry$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/J13010 606 $aAgriculture$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L11006 606 $aComplex Systems$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M13090 615 0$aSustainable development. 615 0$aEcology. 615 0$aRemote sensing. 615 0$aAgriculture. 615 0$aSystem theory. 615 14$aSustainable Development. 615 24$aEnvironment, general. 615 24$aRemote Sensing/Photogrammetry. 615 24$aAgriculture. 615 24$aComplex Systems. 676 $a333.7 676 $a338.927 676 $a519 676 $a630 702 $aKurian$b Mathew$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aArdakanian$b Reza$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910299437503321 996 $aGoverning the Nexus$92502458 997 $aUNINA LEADER 12333nam 22006855 450 001 9910768171403321 005 20250630211704.0 010 $a3-031-46692-6 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-031-46692-2 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC30980133 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL30980133 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-031-46692-2 035 $a(CKB)29128101100041 035 $a(OCoLC)1412258110 035 $a(EXLCZ)9929128101100041 100 $a20231201d2024 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aInterdisciplinary Advances in Sustainable Development II $eProceedings of the BHAAAS International Symposium on Sustainable Urban Development 2023 /$fedited by Maja Arslanagi?-Kalajd?i?, Naida Ademovi?, Tijana Tufek-Memi?evi? 205 $a1st ed. 2024. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer Nature Switzerland :$cImprint: Springer,$d2024. 215 $a1 online resource (374 pages) 225 1 $aLecture Notes in Networks and Systems,$x2367-3389 ;$v804 311 08$aPrint version: Arslanagi?-Kalajd?i?, Maja Interdisciplinary Advances in Sustainable Development II Cham : Springer,c2024 9783031466915 327 $aIntro -- Preface -- Contents -- Disaster Management and Risk Reduction -- Available Methodologies in Calculating the Ex-post Cost of Disaster: Case of Türkiye -- 1 Introduction -- 2 Methodology -- 3 Turkish Experience -- 4 Concluding Remarks -- References -- Evaluating the Earthquake Risk Assessment in Bosnia and Herzegovina: A Call for Improved Preparedness -- 1 Introduction -- 2 Assessing the Current Situation -- 3 The Role of Government and Institutions -- 4 Recommendations for Improvement -- 5 Conclusion -- References -- Enhancing Human Security Through Regional Cooperation in Disaster Management and Risk Reduction Policies in South East Europe -- 1 Introduction -- 2 Background and Motivation -- 3 Role of Official Development Assistance (ODA) and Level of Its Responsiveness to Human Security Challenges of SEE -- 4 Can a Regional Holistic Approach Be a Worthwhile Instrument to Respond to Natural Disasters as Part of Human Security? -- 5 Conclusion/Recommendations -- References -- Energy Efficiency and Environment -- How Accurately Energy Audits Estimate the Required Investment in Energy Efficiency Measures? -- 1 Introduction -- 2 Detail Energy Audit Versus Energy Efficiency Design Versus Contract for Construction Works -- 3 Research Design and Methodology -- 4 Results and Discussions -- 5 Recommendations -- References -- Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings in BiH -- 1 Introduction -- 2 Energy Efficiency in Bosnia and Herzegovina -- 3 Legal Framework Related to Energy Efficiency in BIH -- 4 Public Buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina -- 5 EE Funding Programs in BIH -- 6 Technical Implementation Process for Public Buildings Energy Efficiency Projects -- Preparation of Detailed Energy Audit Reports -- Preparation of the Conceptual Design -- Preparation of the Detailed Design -- Procurement Phase -- Contract Execution. 327 $a7 Potential Energy Savings and Benefits of EE Projects -- 8 Conclusion -- Bibliography -- St John's Wort as a Possible Tool for Remediation of the Soil Contaminated with Heavy Metals -- 1 Introduction -- 2 Materials and Methods -- Sample Collection -- Chemicals, Reagents and Glassware -- Soil Sample Treatment -- 3 Results -- 4 Discussion -- 5 Conclusion -- References -- Cities -- Understanding the Linear City.
