It opens by examining the main arguments for the establishment of metropolitan transport authorities. The potential impacts of institutional change on the policy efficiency of institutions are then examined. Key problems for institutional designers are identified, showing how they can hamper the achievement of desired policy outcomes through institutional solutions. Two in-depth case studies on institutional change in metropolitan transport (in London and Barcelona) are presented with a view to testing the aforementioned hypotheses and providing insights into the ways in which the two transport institutions were reformed. The concluding chapter identifies lessons for institutional designers and highlights the policy results that may be expected from the constitution of metropolitan transport authorities. 410 0$aPoliMI SpringerBriefs,$x2282-2577 606 $aRegional economics 606 $aSpatial economics 606 $aUrban geography 606 $aPublic administration 606 $aTransportation 606 $aPublic finance 606 $aService industries 606 $aRegional/Spatial Science$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W49000 606 $aUrban Geography / Urbanism (inc. megacities, cities, towns)$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/J15010 606 $aPublic Administration$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W34030 606 $aTransportation$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/119000 606 $aPublic Economics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W34000 606 $aServices$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/527020 615 0$aRegional economics. 615 0$aSpatial economics. 615 0$aUrban geography. 615 0$aPublic administration. 615 0$aTransportation. 615 0$aPublic finance. 615 0$aService industries. 615 14$aRegional/Spatial Science. 615 24$aUrban Geography / Urbanism (inc. megacities, cities, towns). 615 24$aPublic Administration. 615 24$aTransportation. 615 24$aPublic Economics. 615 24$aServices. 676 $a330 676 $a336 676 $a338.4 676 $a338.9 676 $a351 676 $a388 676 $a913-919 700 $aBusetti$b Simone$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0763688 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910298494503321 996 $aGoverning Metropolitan Transport$92536080 997 $aUNINA
