This volume 1 is part of a two-volume set devoted to the species, the second of which focuses on farming. The present volume is divided into three parts: Biology and ecology, Biology and physiology of reproduction, and Ecophysiology, i.e. adaptation to the environment. The first part addresses a broad range of topics, such as: the ecology, including a new approach to species-specificity, a new insight on the mineralization of vertebral elements, two approaches to sex determination, transposable elements in the gonads, early ontogeny, olfaction and gustation, nutrition and swimming. The second part includes neurochemical and anatomical descriptions of the central nervous system and an updated version of the oogenesis, the characteristics of both sperm and spermatozoa, and a synthesis on gonadal steroids (synthesis, plasmatic levels and biological activities). In turn, the third part reveals how the physiology of the species changes depending on environmental factors such as oxygen, ammonia, and nitrite. Some fundamental consequences of ammonia are developed (sublethal and lethal levels, effects on gill epithelium and haematology, acid-base balance, on AA and adenyl nucleotides levels in plasma, brain and muscle tissue). In addition, the book includes two methodological chapters dealing with fish dorsal aortic cannulation and respiration physiology.   . 606 $aWildlife 606 $aFish 606 $aAgriculture 606 $aAquatic ecology  606 $aAnimal physiology 606 $aMarine sciences 606 $aFreshwater 606 $aFood?Biotechnology 606 $aFish & Wildlife Biology & Management$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L25080 606 $aAgriculture$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L11006 606 $aFreshwater & Marine Ecology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L19066 606 $aAnimal Physiology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L33030 606 $aMarine & Freshwater Sciences$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/U36000 606 $aFood Science$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/C15001 615 0$aWildlife. 615 0$aFish. 615 0$aAgriculture. 615 0$aAquatic ecology . 615 0$aAnimal physiology. 615 0$aMarine sciences. 615 0$aFreshwater. 615 0$aFood?Biotechnology. 615 14$aFish & Wildlife Biology & Management. 615 24$aAgriculture. 615 24$aFreshwater & Marine Ecology. 615 24$aAnimal Physiology. 615 24$aMarine & Freshwater Sciences. 615 24$aFood Science. 676 $a570 702 $aWilliot$b Patrick$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aNonnotte$b Guy$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aVizziano-Cantonnet$b Denise$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aChebanov$b Mikhail$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910298414103321 996 $aThe Siberian Sturgeon (Acipenser baerii, Brandt, 1869) Volume 1 - Biology$92505665 997 $aUNINA
