The primary aim of this research was to identifying the potential of wild relatives of these legumes for breeding purposes. Studying the wild relatives of cool season legumes includes evaluation of their taxonomic status, their morphological variation, ecological requirements, exploration of their distribution, and seed collection in their natural habitats. These seeds were used for examining their protein profile as preliminary hints of their affinity to the cultigens. Plants grown from these seeds were used for establishing their karyotype, producing intra- and interspecific hybrids and analyses of their chromosome pairing at meiosis and fertility. The aim of these investigations was the identification of the potential wild gene pool of the domesticated forms. Assessment of genetic variation among accessions, particularly in the genus Lens, was made by isozymes and chloroplast DNA studies. 410 0$aSpringerBriefs in Plant Science,$x2192-1229 606 $aPlant breeding 606 $aEcology  606 $aPlant genetics 606 $aPlant Breeding/Biotechnology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L24060 606 $aEcology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L19007 606 $aPlant Genetics and Genomics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L32020 615 0$aPlant breeding. 615 0$aEcology . 615 0$aPlant genetics. 615 14$aPlant Breeding/Biotechnology. 615 24$aEcology. 615 24$aPlant Genetics and Genomics. 676 $a570 676 $a577 676 $a581.35 676 $a631.52 676 $a660.6 700 $aLadizinsky$b Gideon$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0459721 702 $aAbbo$b Shahal$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910298289303321 996 $aThe Search for Wild Relatives of Cool Season Legumes$92502133 997 $aUNINA
