The reorientation of development policy from structural adjustment to poverty reduction as the central objective thus called for new tools to examine distributional change. This book analyzes the poverty and distributional impact of policy changes and external shocks in three case studies from Latin America: Trade liberalization in Colombia and Brazil, and the gas boom in Bolivia. It uses an innovative approach that combines computable general equilibrium and microsimulation models. The country applications illustrate that distributional consequences depend very much on the nature of the shock or policy change as well as the characteristics of the country in question. The book issues a warning against policy prescriptions being based on oversimplifying assumptions and models. 517 $aGoettinger Studien zur Entwicklungsoekonomik / Goettingen Studies in Development Economics vol. 18 517 $aPoverty and Distributional Impact of Economic Policies and External Shocks 606 $aPolitical science$vTheory 606 $aEconomics$vTheory 606 $aEconomics$xPhilosophy 606 $aLabor economics 606 $aDevelopment economics 607 $aBrazil$xEconomic conditions$y1985- 607 $aBrazil$xEconomic policy 607 $aColombia$xEconomic conditions$y1970- 607 $aColombia$xEconomic policy 607 $aBolivia$xEconomic conditions$y1982- 607 $aBolivia$xEconomic policy 615 0$aPolitical science 615 0$aEconomics 615 0$aEconomics$xPhilosophy. 615 0$aLabor economics. 615 0$aDevelopment economics. 676 $a330.98 700 $aLay$b Jann$0966903 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910297039903321 996 $aPoverty and Distributional Impact of Economic Policies and External Shocks$93553111 997 $aUNINA
