Cooper. 330 $aIn Reconciling Indo-European Syllabification , Adam Cooper brings together two seemingly disparate phenomena associated with Indo-European syllable structure: the heterosyllabic treatment of medial consonant clusters, which tolerates CVC syllables, and the right-hand vocalization of sonorants, which ostensibly avoids them. Operating from a perspective that is simultaneously empirical, theoretical, and historical in nature, he establishes their compatibility by crafting a formal analysis that integrates them into a single picture of the reconstructed system. More generally, drawing on evidence from Vedic, Greek, and Proto-Indo-European itself, Cooper demonstrates the continued relevance of the ancient Indo-European languages to contemporary linguistic theory, and, moreover, reaffirms the value of the syllable as a unit of phonology, necessary for these languages? formal representation. 410 0$aBrill's studies in Indo-European languages & linguistics ;$vVolume 13. 606 $aIndo-European languages$xSyllabification 606 $aIndo-European languages$xPhonology 615 0$aIndo-European languages$xSyllabification. 615 0$aIndo-European languages$xPhonology. 676 $a414 700 $aCooper$b Adam I.$01578517 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910788092503321 996 $aReconciling Indo-European syllabification$93857931 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03409nam 22009015 450 001 9910965378803321 005 20240313102242.0 010 $a9786611363635 010 $a9781281363633 010 $a1281363634 010 $a9781403977267 010 $a1403977267 024 7 $a10.1057/9781403977267 035 $a(CKB)1000000000342767 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000211258 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11201530 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000211258 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10292951 035 $a(PQKB)10344055 035 $a(DE-He213)978-1-4039-7726-7 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC308008 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL308008 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10135622 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL136363 035 $a(OCoLC)560467116 035 $a(Perlego)3497480 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000342767 100 $a20151123d2006 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcn||||||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aNietzsche's Dancers $eIsadora Duncan, Martha Graham, and the Revaluation of Christian Values /$fby K.
