Focusing mainly on areas of Northern India and Nepal between 800 to 1300 CE and on manuscripts containing Sanskrit texts, the present study investigates a fundamental and so far rarely studied aspect of manuscript production: visual organisation. Scribes adopted a variety of visual strategies to distinguish one text from another and to differentiate the various sections within a single text (chapters, sub-chapters, etc.). Their repertoire includes the use of space(s) on the folio, the adoption of different writing styles, the inclusion of symbols of various kind, the application of colours ('rubrication'), or a combination of all these. This study includes a description of these various strategies and an analysis of their different implementations across the selected geographical areas. It sheds light on how manuscripts were produced, as well as on some aspects of their employment in ritual contexts, in different areas of India and Nepal. 410 0$aStudies in Manuscript Cultures 606 $aRegional studies$2bicssc 606 $aAustralasian & Pacific history$2bicssc 606 $aNon-Western philosophy$2bicssc 606 $aPhilosophy: epistemology & theory of knowledge$2bicssc 606 $aPhilosophy: aesthetics$2bicssc 610 $aCult of the book. 610 $aSanskrit. 610 $aSouth Asian book history. 610 $avisual organisation. 615 7$aRegional studies 615 7$aAustralasian & Pacific history 615 7$aNon-Western philosophy 615 7$aPhilosophy: epistemology & theory of knowledge 615 7$aPhilosophy: aesthetics 676 $a091.0954 700 $aBhattarai$b Bidur, $4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0955190 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910372748703321 996 $aDividing Texts$92160628 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03643oam 2200469 450 001 9910338012903321 005 20201215134649.0 010 $a1-4842-4415-X 024 7 $a10.1007/978-1-4842-4415-9 035 $a(OCoLC)1099569420 035 $a(MiFhGG)GVRL597I 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000007992449 100 $a20201210h20192019 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurun|---uuuua 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aCrushing the IT gender bias $ethriving as a woman in technology /$fKellyn Pot'Vin-Gorman 205 $a1st ed. 2019. 210 1$aCalifornia :$cApress,$d[2019] 210 4$d?2019 215 $a1 online resource (xii, 177 pages) $cillustrations (chiefly color), charts 225 0 $aGale eBooks 311 $a1-4842-4414-1 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $a1. Statistically, women are a disproportionately small percentage of the technology industry. How did we get here, what is changing, and what can future generations of women in STEM expect? In Crushing the IT Gender Bias, author Kellyn Pot?Vin-Gorman applies her two decades of experience in tech to these meaningful questions, plus many more. As a mentor and sponsor of women in the database and development communities, Pot?Vin-Gorman uses experience, visualizations of hard data, and industry interviews to describe the many challenges that women face in STEM. She then shows you how to inoculate against them. Small, positive changes like these are similar to a vaccine: they build individual immunity and thus create herd immunity to protect the most vulnerable. This shift is accomplished through increased representation of?and direct exposure to?successful role models in the industry. You?ll get practical advice related to hiring practices, salary negotiations, and barriers to collaboration. After witnessing multiple female peers depart the tech world, Pot?Vin-Gorman has written Crushing the IT Gender Bias to make her voice heard and to start this necessary conversation productively so that women can thrive. Additionally, this book is for male professionals who desire to grow in their understanding and eliminate bias in their environments. Do not be content with mere survival. Read this book, practice the techniques, and, most importantly, learn how to pay it forward. By arming yourself with knowledge and facing bias head-on, you can be the meaningful change that you want to see in the tech industry. 606 $aWomen in computer science 606 $aWomen in information science 606 $aSex discrimination in science 615 0$aWomen in computer science. 615 0$aWomen in information science. 615 0$aSex discrimination in science. 676 $a608.2 700 $aPot?Vin-Gorman$b Kellyn$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01060067 801 0$bMiFhGG 801 1$bMiFhGG 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910338012903321 996 $aCrushing the IT Gender Bias$92510926 997 $aUNINA
