Its reduced theatre of operations appeared irrelevant to the strategic balance of the major powers. This volume is a contribution to the growing body of historical literature that explores the global and social history of the First World War. It questions the supposedly marginal role of Africa during the Great War with a special focus on Northeast Africa. In fact, between 1911 and 1924 a series of influential political and social upheavals took place in the vast expanse between Tripoli and Addis Ababa. The First World War was to profoundly change the local balance of power. This volume consists of fifteen chapters divided into three sections. The essays examine the social, political and operational course of the war and assess its consequences in a region straddling Africa and the Middle East. The relationship between local events and global processes is explored, together with the regional protagonists and their agency. Contrary to the myth still prevailing, the First World War did have both immediate and long-term effects on the region. This book highlights some of the significant aspects associated with it. 517 $aFirst World War from Tripoli to Addis Ababa 606 $aHistory 606 $aÉthiopie 606 $aPremière Guerre mondiale 606 $aSoudan 606 $aSomaliland 606 $aZaghlûl 606 $aWafd Révolution égyptienne de 1919 606 $anationalisme 606 $a1919 Revolution 606 $aEgypt 606 $aFirst World War 606 $anationalism 606 $aSudan 606 $aWafd 610 $aWafd 610 $aZaghlûl 610 $aEgypt 610 $aSudan 610 $a1919 Revolution 610 $aFirst World War 610 $anationalism 615 4$aHistory 615 4$aÉthiopie 615 4$aPremière Guerre mondiale 615 4$aSoudan 615 4$aSomaliland 615 4$aZaghlûl 615 4$aWafd Révolution égyptienne de 1919 615 4$anationalisme 615 4$a1919 Revolution 615 4$aEgypt 615 4$aFirst World War 615 4$anationalism 615 4$aSudan 615 4$aWafd 700 $aBruzzi$b Silvia$0374292 701 $aDewière$b Rémi$0790818 701 $ade Gayffier-Bonneville$b Anne-Claire$01367003 701 $aDirar$b Uoldelul Chelati$0660786 701 $aErlich$b Haggai$0657504 701 $aGilkes$b Patrick$01367004 701 $aHiribarren$b Vincent$01318313 701 $aHonvault$b Juliette$01367005 701 $aImbert-Vier$b Simon$01367006 701 $aJolly$b Laurent$01367007 701 $aMontalbano$b Gabriele$01367008 701 $aPlaut$b Martin$01204830 701 $aShiferaw Bekele$01367009 701 $aUngari$b Andrea$0284606 701 $aUoldelul Chelati Dirar$01367010 701 $aVezzadini$b Elena$01301833 701 $aVolterra$b Alessandro$0623453 701 $aZaccaria$b Massimo$0661118 701 $aZollmann$b Jakob$0984672 701 $aShiferaw Bekele$01367009 701 $aUoldelul Chelati Dirar$01367010 701 $aVolterra$b Alessandro$0623453 701 $aZaccaria$b Massimo$0661118 801 0$bFR-FrMaCLE 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910287940903321 996 $aThe First World War from Tripoli to Addis Ababa (1911-1924)$93389772 997 $aUNINA
