Instead, the process of state formation in the region has been a complicated course that involved different institutional traditions, managing societies marked by varying degrees of political loyalty to central power, and dealing with colonial interference. Rethinking State and Border Formation in the Middle East seeks to disentangle some of these complexities by proposing both a decentred and dialectic approach. Taking its cue from the bourgeoning field of borderland studies and a variety of historical sub-disciplines, this monograph pays attention to the circulation of people, goods, diseases and ideas as well as to the everyday encounters between a wide range of state and non-state actors in the borderlands laying between Turkey, Syria and Iraq. The goal is to provide a much more holistic yet finely-grained understanding of the formation of the territorial state in the interwar Middle East. 606 $aBorderlands$zIraq$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aBorderlands$zSyria$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aBorderlands$zTurkey$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aNationalism$zMiddle East$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aHISTORY / Middle East / General$2bisacsh 615 0$aBorderlands$xHistory 615 0$aBorderlands$xHistory 615 0$aBorderlands$xHistory 615 0$aNationalism$xHistory 615 7$aHISTORY / Middle East / General. 676 $a956/.03 700 $aTejel$b Jordi$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01131860 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a996543172103316 996 $aRethinking State and Border Formation in the Middle East$93551186 997 $aUNISA LEADER 03430oam 22007694a 450 001 9910286440303321 005 20230621135418.0 010 $a607-628-312-2 035 $a(CKB)4100000006673425 035 $a(OCoLC)1148147337 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse84672 035 $a(WaSeSS)IndRDA00124533 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/89458 035 $a(oapen)doab89458 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000006673425 100 $a20180921d1979 uy 0 101 0 $aspa 135 $aur|||||||nn|n 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aFuerza de trabajo y movimientos laborales en América Latina$fRuben Kaztman y Jose Luis Reyna, compiladores 205 $a1. edition. 210 $cEl Colegio de México$d1979 210 1$aMexico :$cColegio de Mexico,$d1979. 210 4$d©1979. 215 $a1 online resource (1 online resource viii, 337 pages) 311 08$a968-12-0774-2 327 $aKaztman, R. y Reyna, J.L.
