Elle représente souvent une expérience limite pour les interlocuteurs comme pour les spectateurs. Avec le suppliant, entre sur la scène un spectre inquiétant : celui de l'infortune et du malheur, de la souffrance dont nul ne voudrait se tenir responsable ? mais aussi la possibilité d'un autre système de valeurs.
