This work proposes an overview of archaeological ddiiss coveries since the 1980s for the period between the 5th and 10th centuries in the following areas: land occupation, urban and rural dwellings, agriculture and handicraft, furniture, burial and religious sites, places of authority and trade. Experimental archaeology and public outreach are also included. Metalwork, ceramics and currency are discussed by specialists. Each themed chapter includes an analytical list of sites and information on methodology and knowledge. The work concludes with the outlook for archaeological heritage management and research. The many figures include a large number of previously unpublished elements.
