Drawing on work in musicology, cultural studies, and critical improvisation studies, as well as his own performing experience, Dan DiPiero argues that comparing improvisation across domains calls into question how improvisation is typically recognized. By comparing the music of Eric Dolphy, Norwegian free improvisers, Mr. K, and the Ingrid Laubrock/Kris Davis duo with improvised activities in everyday life (such as walking, baking, working, and listening), DiPiero concludes that improvisation appears as a function of any encounter between subjects, objects, and environments. Bringing contingency into conversation with the utopian strain of critical improvisation studies, DiPiero shows how particular social investments cause improvisation to be associated with relative freedom, risk-taking, and unpredictability in both scholarship and public discourse. Taking seriously the claim that improvisation is the same thing as living, Contingent Encounters overturns longstanding assumptions about the aesthetic and political implications of this notoriously slippery term." 517 3 $aImprovisation in music and everyday life 606 $aImprovisation (Music)$xPhilosophy and aesthetics 606 $aImprovisation in art$xPolitical aspects 606 $aContingency (Philosophy) 615 0$aImprovisation (Music)$xPhilosophy and aesthetics. 615 0$aImprovisation in art$xPolitical aspects. 615 0$aContingency (Philosophy) 676 $a123 700 $aDiPiero$b Dan$01257421 801 0$bEYM 801 1$bEYM 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910586562203321 996 $aContingent Encounters$92913963 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01668 am 2200517 n 450 001 9910275040903321 005 20180517 010 $a2-490296-05-1 035 $a(CKB)4100000004385917 035 $a(FrMaCLE)OB-irhis-3044 035 $a(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/55683 035 $a(PPN)228250897 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000004385917 100 $a20180519j|||||||| ||| 0 101 0 $afre 135 $auu||||||m|||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 14$aLes parlementaires du Nord-Pas-de-Calais sous la IIIe République /$fJean-Marc Guislin, Jean-Pierre Florin, Bernard Ménager 210 $aLille $cPublications de l?Institut de recherches historiques du Septentrion$d2018 215 $a1 online resource (352 p.) 311 $a2-905637-36-6 606 $aHistory 606 $aparlemantaires 606 $aFrance 606 $aNord-Pas-de-Calais 610 $aNord-Pas-de-Calais 610 $aFrance 610 $aparlemantaires 615 4$aHistory 615 4$aparlemantaires 615 4$aFrance 615 4$aNord-Pas-de-Calais 700 $aFlorin$b Jean-Pierre$01327078 701 $aGuislin$b Jean-Marc$01286046 701 $aMénager$b Bernard$01301737 701 $aPrzybyla$b Francis$01239627 701 $aGuislin$b Jean-Marc$01286046 701 $aFlorin$b Jean-Pierre$01327078 701 $aMénager$b Bernard$01301737 801 0$bFR-FrMaCLE 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910275040903321 996 $aLes parlementaires du Nord-Pas-de-Calais sous la IIIe République$93037835 997 $aUNINA
