By the start of the Hollande presidency, many sections of the electorate had lost faith in the traditional parties of government and the ideologies which they represented and were adopting a more individualist approach to politics. The Left/Right divide, which had determined relations between parties since the creation of the Fifth Republic in 1958, gave way to a new arrangement, based on three axes - identity, liberal economics and Europe. These policy areas would provoke major differences of opinion among supporters of the Centre Right, and lead a significant number of them to abandon Les Républicains, which was a major factor in the election of Emmanuel Macron. William Rispin completed his PhD in French Politics at the University of Warwick, UK. His work has focused on the evolution of the French party system and the problems faced by the Centre Right since 2002. 410 0$aFrench Politics, Society and Culture,$x2946-3769 606 $aEurope$xPolitics and government 606 $aElections 606 $aPolitical leadership 606 $aPolitical science 606 $aEuropean Politics 606 $aElectoral Politics 606 $aPolitical Leadership 606 $aGovernance and Government 615 0$aEurope$xPolitics and government. 615 0$aElections. 615 0$aPolitical leadership. 615 0$aPolitical science. 615 14$aEuropean Politics. 615 24$aElectoral Politics. 615 24$aPolitical Leadership. 615 24$aGovernance and Government. 676 $a324.24403 700 $aRispin$b William.$01221975 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910483902703321 996 $aThe French centre right and the challenges of a party system in transition$92833841 997 $aUNINA
