Based on in-depth studies of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland, the authors compare these cases with legal aid in Europe and the US to examine whether a single, unique Nordic model exists. Contextualizing Nordic legal aid in relation to welfare ideology and human rights, Hammerslev and Halvorsen Rønning consider whether flaws in the welfare state exist, and how legal aid affects disadvantaged citizens.    Concluding that the five countries all have very different legal aid schemes, the authors explore an important general trend: welfare states increasingly outsourcing legal aid to the market and the third sector through both membership organizations and smaller voluntary organizations. A methodical and compas sionate text, this book will be of special interest to scholars and students of the criminal justice, the welfare state, and the legal aid system. 606 $aCorrections 606 $aPunishment 606 $aCrime?Sociological aspects 606 $aCriminal law 606 $aCriminal justice, Administration of 606 $aWelfare state 606 $aPrison and Punishment$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/1B9000 606 $aCrime and Society$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/1B3000 606 $aCriminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/R13006 606 $aCriminal Justice$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/1BB010 606 $aPolitics of the Welfare State$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X33050 610 $aSocio-legal studies 610 $aLaw 610 $aCriminology 610 $aCriminal justice 610 $aAction research 610 $aScandinavia 610 $aWelfare state 610 $aNorway 610 $aDemark 610 $aFinland 610 $aSweden 610 $aIceland 615 0$aCorrections. 615 0$aPunishment. 615 0$aCrime?Sociological aspects. 615 0$aCriminal law. 615 0$aCriminal justice, Administration of. 615 0$aWelfare state. 615 14$aPrison and Punishment. 615 24$aCrime and Society. 615 24$aCriminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law. 615 24$aCriminal Justice. 615 24$aPolitics of the Welfare State. 676 $a364.6 700 $aHalvorsen Rønning$b Olaf$4edt$01356508 702 $aHalvorsen Rønning$b Olaf$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aHammerslev$b Ole$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910272348303321 996 $aOutsourcing Legal Aid in the Nordic Welfare States$93361091 997 $aUNINA
