The individual chapters chart this interrelation in a variety of contexts, from the Humanists who drew on Hippocrates, Galen, and Aristotle to answer philosophical and medical questions, to medical debates on the limits and power of mechanism, and on to eighteenth-century controversies over medical materialism and 'atheism.' The work presented here broadens our understanding of both philosophy and medicine in this period by illustrating the ways these disciplines were in deep theoretical and methodological dialogue and by demonstrating the importance of this dialogue for understanding their history. Taken together, these papers argue that to overlook the medical context of natural philosophy and the philosophical context of medicine is to overlook fundamentally important aspects of these intellectual endeavors. . 410 0$aHistory, Philosophy and Theory of the Life Sciences,$x2211-1956 ;$v14 606 $aBiology$xPhilosophy 606 $aMedicine$xPhilosophy 606 $aPhilosophy$xHistory 606 $aPhilosophy, Modern 606 $aMedicine$xHistory 606 $aPhilosophy of Biology 606 $aPhilosophy of Medicine 606 $aHistory of Philosophy 606 $aEarly Modern Philosophy 606 $aHistory of Medicine 615 0$aBiology$xPhilosophy. 615 0$aMedicine$xPhilosophy. 615 0$aPhilosophy$xHistory. 615 0$aPhilosophy, Modern. 615 0$aMedicine$xHistory. 615 14$aPhilosophy of Biology. 615 24$aPhilosophy of Medicine. 615 24$aHistory of Philosophy. 615 24$aEarly Modern Philosophy. 615 24$aHistory of Medicine. 676 $a610.9 702 $aDistelzweig$b Peter$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aGoldberg$b Benjamin$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aRagland$b Evan R$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910255336403321 996 $aEarly Modern Medicine and Natural Philosophy$92523265 997 $aUNINA
