Under authoritarian rule, relentless injustice creates the objective conditions for expressions of popular protest which may culminate in popular uprisings, as witnessed in many Arab countries at the end of the first decade of the 21st century. Unsurprisingly, the slogans of the Arab Liberation Tide (ALT) popular revolts centered around freedom, implying sound democratic governance, social justice, and human dignity for all. In reality, the short-lived governance arrangements which followed the January 2011 popular revolt in Egypt, for example, were little more than extensions of the authoritarian governance system the revolt set out to overthrow. There were differences, of course, between the three short-lived regimes that took power since then, but in form, rather than substance. This book uses a structuralist political economy framework rather than a detailed historical account as it considers how the ALT may prove to be an historic opportunity for human renaissance in the Arab World ? or alternatively a disaster of epic proportions. 606 $aInternational relations 606 $aMiddle East$xPolitics and government 606 $aInternational economic relations 606 $aPeace 606 $aPolitical science 606 $aInternational Relations 606 $aMiddle Eastern Politics 606 $aInternational Political Economy? 606 $aPeace and Conflict Studies 606 $aPolitical Science 606 $aPolitical Theory 615 0$aInternational relations. 615 0$aMiddle East$xPolitics and government. 615 0$aInternational economic relations. 615 0$aPeace. 615 0$aPolitical science. 615 14$aInternational Relations. 615 24$aMiddle Eastern Politics. 615 24$aInternational Political Economy?. 615 24$aPeace and Conflict Studies. 615 24$aPolitical Science. 615 24$aPolitical Theory. 676 $a909/.097492708312 686 $aPOL004000$aPOL011000$aPOL034000$aPOL035000$aPOL042000$2bisacsh 700 $aFarjani$b Nadir$01791959 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910255322203321 996 $aArab Revolution in the 21st Century$94329784 997 $aUNINA
