Conclusion -- . 330 $aCraig Berry assesses UK economic policy in the wake of the financial crisis through the lens of the austerity agenda, focusing on monetary policy, economic rebalancing, industrial and regional policy, the labour market, welfare reform and budgetary management. He argues that austerity is geared towards a resurrection of financialisation and the UK?s pre-crisis economic model, through the transformation of individual behaviour and demonisation of the state. Cutting public spending and debt in the short term is, at most, a secondary concern for the UK policy elite. However, the underlying purpose of austerity is frequently misunderstood due to its conflation with a narrow deficit reduction agenda, not least by its Keynesian critics. Berry also demonstrates how austerity has effectively dismantled the prospect of a centre-left alternative to neoliberalism. 410 0$aBuilding a Sustainable Political Economy: SPERI Research & Policy 606 $aPolitical economy 606 $aWorld politics 606 $aAdministrative law 606 $aPublic policy 606 $aPublic administration 606 $aPolitical science 606 $aInternational Political Economy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/912140 606 $aPolitical History$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911080 606 $aAdministrative Law$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/R17036 606 $aPublic Policy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911060 606 $aPublic Administration$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W34030 606 $aPolitical Science$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911000 607 $aGreat Britain$xEconomic policy$y21st century 615 0$aPolitical economy. 615 0$aWorld politics. 615 0$aAdministrative law. 615 0$aPublic policy. 615 0$aPublic administration. 615 0$aPolitical science. 615 14$aInternational Political Economy. 615 24$aPolitical History. 615 24$aAdministrative Law. 615 24$aPublic Policy. 615 24$aPublic Administration. 615 24$aPolitical Science. 676 $a320.941 700 $aBerry$b Craig$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0790248 712 02$aSheffield Political Economy and Research Institute. 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910255306403321 996 $aAusterity politics and UK economic policy$91764155 997 $aUNINA
