Bangladesh has done well in terms of economic growth and diversification and various social goals, such as the Millennium Development Goals. However, it suffers from political instability and poor quality of civil administration and could grow faster with improved governance. Analyzing Bangladesh's governance problems and placing them firmly within a broader international perspective, this book makes a series of policy recommendations to improve governance for faster development; these include switching to proportional election, shortening the government-term, and rationalizing salary and size of the civil service. The book analyzes the prospects of the proposed reforms and suggests strategies for gaining support and implementing them. Although the book focuses on Bangladesh, its policy recommendations are relevant to many other developing countries. 606 $aAsia?Politics and government 606 $aPublic policy 606 $aDevelopment economics 606 $aEconomic policy 606 $aGlobalization 606 $aPolitical science 606 $aAsian Politics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911110 606 $aPublic Policy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911060 606 $aDevelopment Economics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W42000 606 $aDevelopment Policy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/913020 606 $aGlobalization$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/912030 606 $aPolitical Science$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911000 607 $aBangladesh$xPolitics and government 615 0$aAsia?Politics and government. 615 0$aPublic policy. 615 0$aDevelopment economics. 615 0$aEconomic policy. 615 0$aGlobalization. 615 0$aPolitical science. 615 14$aAsian Politics. 615 24$aPublic Policy. 615 24$aDevelopment Economics. 615 24$aDevelopment Policy. 615 24$aGlobalization. 615 24$aPolitical Science. 676 $a320.95492 700 $aIslam$b N$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01063806 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910255303203321 996 $aGovernance for Development$92534655 997 $aUNINA
