Conclusions. 330 $aThis book explores two recent crises in British political economy: the crisis of 1976?9, for which the trade unions were impugned, and the 2007 economic crisis, for which bankers were (at least initially) blamed. The author argues that the ?crisis resolution? of the former ? principally the Thatcherite reforms of the 1980s ? led to the emergence of the banking crisis. Further, Kirkland demonstrates how narratives of blame have emerged and were used in both instances to promote specific agendas. Narrations of blame and crises were used to curb the trade union powers in the 1980s, whilst the 2007 crisis was quickly reframed as one of excessive government spending, which in turn has led to policies of austerity. 410 0$aBuilding a Sustainable Political Economy: SPERI Research & Policy 606 $aPolitical economy 606 $aPolitical sociology 606 $aFinance, Public 606 $aLabor economics 606 $aInternational Political Economy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/912140 606 $aPolitical Sociology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22170 606 $aBritish Politics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911120 606 $aPublic Finance$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/611000 606 $aLabor Economics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W37000 607 $aGreat Britain$xPolitics and government 615 0$aPolitical economy. 615 0$aPolitical sociology. 615 0$aFinance, Public. 615 0$aLabor economics. 615 14$aInternational Political Economy. 615 24$aPolitical Sociology. 615 24$aBritish Politics. 615 24$aPublic Finance. 615 24$aLabor Economics. 676 $a338.941 700 $aKirkland$b Christopher$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0865610 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910255287303321 996 $aThe Political Economy of Britain in Crisis$91931856 997 $aUNINA
