King-Kok Cheung launches a new transnational exchange by examining both Chinese and Chinese American writers. Part 1 presents alternative forms of masculinity that transcend conventional associations of valor with aggression. It examines gender refashioning in light of the Chinese dyadic ideal of wen-wu (verbal arts and martial arts), while redefining both in the process. Part 2 highlights the writers? formal innovations by presenting alternative autobiography, theory, metafiction, and translation. In doing so, Cheung puts in relief the literary experiments of the writers, who interweave hybrid poetics with two-pronged geopolitical critiques. The writers examined provide a reflexive lens through which transpacific audiences are beckoned to view the ?other? country and to look homeward without blinders. . 606 $aAmerica?Literatures 606 $aOriental literature 606 $aLiterature?Philosophy 606 $aCulture?Study and teaching 606 $aSociology 606 $aLiterature    606 $aNorth American Literature$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/834000 606 $aAsian Literature$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/831000 606 $aLiterary Theory$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/812000 606 $aCultural Theory$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/411130 606 $aGender Studies$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X35000 606 $aPostcolonial/World Literature$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/838000 607 $aUSA$2gnd 615 0$aAmerica?Literatures. 615 0$aOriental literature. 615 0$aLiterature?Philosophy. 615 0$aCulture?Study and teaching. 615 0$aSociology. 615 0$aLiterature   . 615 14$aNorth American Literature. 615 24$aAsian Literature. 615 24$aLiterary Theory. 615 24$aCultural Theory. 615 24$aGender Studies. 615 24$aPostcolonial/World Literature. 676 $a810.98951 700 $aCheung$b King-Kok$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01064859 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910255247203321 996 $aChinese American Literature without Borders$92541234 997 $aUNINA
