This eleventh-century Arabic treatise, composed in Egypt under the Fatimid caliphs, is a detailed account of the heavens and the Earth, illustrated by an unparalleled series of maps and astronomical diagrams. With topics ranging from comets to the island of Sicily, from lunar mansions to the sources of the Nile, it represents the extent of geographical, astronomical and astrological knowledge of the time. This authoritative edition and translation, accompanied by a colour facsimile reproduction, opens a unique window onto the worldview of medieval Islam. An extensive glossary of star-names and seven indices, on birds, animals and other items have been added for easy reference. 410 0$aIslamic philosophy, theology, and science ;$vv. 87. 606 $aCosmography$vEarly works to 1800 606 $aGeography$vEarly works to 1800 606 $aCartography$vEarly works to 1800 606 $aAstronomy, Medieval 607 $aEarth (Planet)$vEarly works to 1800 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aCosmography 615 0$aGeography 615 0$aCartography 615 0$aAstronomy, Medieval. 676 $a523.1089/92762 701 $aRapoport$b Yossef$f1968-$01032532 701 $aSavage-Smith$b Emilie$0643213 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910453656103321 996 $aAn eleventh-century Egyptian guide to the universe$92450477 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03213nam 22006135 450 001 9910255095603321 005 20240628140415.0 010 $a9783319579221 010 $a3319579223 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-319-57922-1 035 $a(CKB)3780000000451244 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC4947488 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-319-57922-1 035 $a(Perlego)3497123 035 $a(EXLCZ)993780000000451244 100 $a20170816d2017 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $2rdacontent 182 $2rdamedia 183 $2rdacarrier 200 10$aAnatomy of the Superhero Film /$fby Larrie Dudenhoeffer 205 $a1st ed. 2017. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer International Publishing :$cImprint: Palgrave Macmillan,$d2017. 215 $a1 online resource (319 pages) $cillustrations (some color) 311 08$a9783319579214 311 08$a3319579215 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aChapter 1. In short, these x-rays offer what we might describe as a metamorpho-physiological approach to the superheroes in feature films, theatrical cartoon shorts, and Netflix television series. This approach examines the ways in which the "substance" of superheroes, which includes their masks, costumes, chevrons, weapons, and auras, extends into the diegetic environment of the film, transgressing it, transforming it, and corporealizing it, making it emblematic of the shape, dimensions, contours, and organismic workings of one or more of our major organs, members, orifices, fluids, or cell clusters. Thus the superhero film, as this study claims, works to make us more aware of the mutability, adaptability, modifiability, and virtual capabilities of our own flesh. 606 $aFilm genres 606 $aMotion pictures 606 $aMotion pictures, American 606 $aEthnology$zAmerica 606 $aCulture 606 $aGenre Studies 606 $aFilm Theory 606 $aAmerican Film and TV 606 $aAmerican Culture 615 0$aFilm genres. 615 0$aMotion pictures. 615 0$aMotion pictures, American. 615 0$aEthnology 615 0$aCulture. 615 14$aGenre Studies. 615 24$aFilm Theory. 615 24$aAmerican Film and TV. 615 24$aAmerican Culture. 676 $a741.43652 700 $aDudenhoeffer$b Larrie$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01061278 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910255095603321 996 $aAnatomy of the Superhero Film$92518152 997 $aUNINA
