Perhaps not surprisingly, the initial introduction of women into Western cultural narrative coincides with the introduction of transgressive women. From the beginning, for good or ill, women have been depicted as insubordinate. Today?s popular manifestations include such widely known figures as Lisbeth Salander (the ?girl with the dragon tattoo?), The Walking Dead?s Michonne, and the queen bees of teen television series. While the existence and prominence of transgressive women has continued uninterrupted, however, attitudes towards them have varied considerably. It is those attitudes that are explored in this collection. At the same time, these essays place feminist/postfeminist analysis in a larger context, entering into ongoing debates about power, equality, sexuality, and gender. 606 $aCulture 606 $aGender 606 $aPopular Culture 606 $aUnited States?Study and teaching 606 $aMotion pictures?United States 606 $aLiterature, Modern?20th century 606 $aLiterature, Modern?21st century 606 $aCulture and Gender$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/411210 606 $aPopular Culture $3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/411170 606 $aAmerican Culture$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/411010 606 $aAmerican Cinema and TV$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/413010 606 $aContemporary Literature$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/815000 615 0$aCulture. 615 0$aGender. 615 0$aPopular Culture. 615 0$aUnited States?Study and teaching. 615 0$aMotion pictures?United States. 615 0$aLiterature, Modern?20th century. 615 0$aLiterature, Modern?21st century. 615 14$aCulture and Gender. 615 24$aPopular Culture . 615 24$aAmerican Culture. 615 24$aAmerican Cinema and TV. 615 24$aContemporary Literature. 676 $a301 702 $aChappell$b Julie$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aYoung$b Mallory$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910255070603321 996 $aBad Girls and Transgressive Women in Popular Television, Fiction, and Film$92514235 997 $aUNINA
