What factors have influenced firms participating in global business? Have state (both central and provincial) policies acted as catalyst for local firms? Not only does this study delve into these issues; it also painstakingly develops a comprehensive database that remains unique in the absence of reliable official statistics on this subject to date. Efforts have been made to establish a reasonably consistent dataset for the period 1990-2008 derived from the CMIE-PROWESS database. Care has been taken to condense the data and classify it by sector, location, size and ownership. The study delineates export patterns by firm and state, and explores factors influencing export decisions according to sector, size and location. A further interesting aspect is the book?s critical examination of industrial and trade promotion policies at the state/regional level that might have contributed to or hindered exporting by firms. The states considered for detailed policy discussions are highly diverse and include Gujarat, Odisha and Karnataka. To address the glaring absence of literature on the role of subnational factors in enterprises? export performance, a preliminary state-by-state analysis of the spatial determinants of firms? export activities is also provided. 410 0$aIndia Studies in Business and Economics,$x2198-0012 606 $aRegional economics 606 $aSpatial economics 606 $aTrade 606 $aBusiness 606 $aCommerce 606 $aEconomic geography 606 $aGlobalization 606 $aMarkets 606 $aEconomic policy 606 $aRegional/Spatial Science$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W49000 606 $aTrade$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/527010 606 $aEconomic Geography$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/J12000 606 $aEmerging Markets/Globalization$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/525010 606 $aEconomic Policy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W34010 615 0$aRegional economics. 615 0$aSpatial economics. 615 0$aTrade. 615 0$aBusiness. 615 0$aCommerce. 615 0$aEconomic geography. 615 0$aGlobalization. 615 0$aMarkets. 615 0$aEconomic policy. 615 14$aRegional/Spatial Science. 615 24$aTrade. 615 24$aEconomic Geography. 615 24$aEmerging Markets/Globalization. 615 24$aEconomic Policy. 676 $a330 700 $aPradhan$b Jaya Prakash$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0963251 702 $aDas$b Keshab$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910254873503321 996 $aManufacturing Exports from Indian States$92184046 997 $aUNINA
