For many, this is a fundamental failing that severely limits its relevance to the real world and is the source of much dissatisfaction with, and cynicism about, economics and economists. Ozanne explains how this neglect of power has come about over the past 150 years and why it is important. He reviews various definitions and theories of power from across the social sciences and proposes a new approach that could bring considerations of power back into standard economic theory and economics teaching. The approach is simple and intuitive, involving little more than re-envisioning the social welfare function as a 'political economy function'. However, if adopted in economics teaching, it could radically change the way young economists are taught to think about economic problems and lead to a 'return to political economy'. 410 0$aPalgrave pivot. 606 $aMicroeconomics 606 $aEconomic policy 606 $aSchools of economics 606 $aPolitical economy 606 $aEconomic theory 606 $aWelfare economics 606 $aMicroeconomics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W31000 606 $aEconomic Policy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W34010 606 $aHeterodox Economics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W53000 606 $aInternational Political Economy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/912140 606 $aEconomic Theory/Quantitative Economics/Mathematical Methods$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W29000 606 $aSocial Choice/Welfare Economics/Public Choice/Political Economy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W31020 615 0$aMicroeconomics. 615 0$aEconomic policy. 615 0$aSchools of economics. 615 0$aPolitical economy. 615 0$aEconomic theory. 615 0$aWelfare economics. 615 14$aMicroeconomics. 615 24$aEconomic Policy. 615 24$aHeterodox Economics. 615 24$aInternational Political Economy. 615 24$aEconomic Theory/Quantitative Economics/Mathematical Methods. 615 24$aSocial Choice/Welfare Economics/Public Choice/Political Economy. 676 $a330 700 $aOzanne$b A$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0937885 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910254867303321 996 $aPower and Neoclassical Economics$92112838 997 $aUNINA
