It focuses on the network-like informal structures that characterised transnational cooperation between the party members and leaders of different socialist parties involved in European affairs. Taking the example of two case studies, namely EC development aid policy and EC southern enlargement policy, the book demonstrates that the socialist parties strengthened their informal transnational network structures for the purposes of debating ideological and programmatic issues and finding policy solutions to common challenges in both policy fields. Moreover, it shows that the networks developed various functions to influence European governance. Against this background, the analysis in this book makes not only a significant contribution to the study of transnational networks of western European socialist parties and the history of European integration, but also adds to the understanding of the role of transnational networks in European politics and policy-making. 410 0$aPalgrave Studies in the History of Social Movements,$x2634-6567 606 $aEurope$xHistory 606 $aEurope$xPolitics and government 606 $aWorld history 606 $aPolitical science 606 $aHistory, Modern 606 $aEuropean History 606 $aEuropean Politics 606 $aWorld History, Global and Transnational History 606 $aPolitical Theory 606 $aModern History 606 $aPolitical Science 615 0$aEurope$xHistory. 615 0$aEurope$xPolitics and government. 615 0$aWorld history. 615 0$aPolitical science. 615 0$aHistory, Modern. 615 14$aEuropean History. 615 24$aEuropean Politics. 615 24$aWorld History, Global and Transnational History. 615 24$aPolitical Theory. 615 24$aModern History. 615 24$aPolitical Science. 676 $a338.91/4 700 $aSalm$b Christian$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0868546 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910254780803321 996 $aTransnational Socialist Networks in the 1970s$91938768 997 $aUNINA
