It focuses on research to improve radiography, and particularly mammography applications, by using a novel X-ray imaging modality that exploits the wave-nature of X-rays, rather than just their absorption in tissue. Further, it explores a broad range of potential applications ? from the assessment of breast cancer and the evaluation of microcalcification clusters, to the examination of renal stones. X-ray imaging is an indispensable tool in modern medical diagnostics, and ranges from simple radiography applications to advanced CT imaging protocols. This novel phase-contrast approach has the potential to deliver significantly improved diagnostic information, also and especially in cases where mammography is used for screening purposes. The thesis is based on several studies conducted by the author ? working in close interdisciplinary cooperation with medical doctors at two university clinics in Munich ? and successfully demonstrates this diagnostic potential in pre-clinical experiments. 410 0$aSpringer Theses, Recognizing Outstanding Ph.D. Research,$x2190-5053 606 $aMedical physics 606 $aRadiation 606 $aRadiology 606 $aCancer$xResearch 606 $aMedical and Radiation Physics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P27060 606 $aDiagnostic Radiology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/H29013 606 $aCancer Research$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/B11001 615 0$aMedical physics. 615 0$aRadiation. 615 0$aRadiology. 615 0$aCancer$xResearch. 615 14$aMedical and Radiation Physics. 615 24$aDiagnostic Radiology. 615 24$aCancer Research. 676 $a618.1907572 700 $aScherer$b Kai Hermann$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0805097 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910254620503321 996 $aGrating-Based X-Ray Phase-Contrast Mammography$91807583 997 $aUNINA
