Classical algorithms and more recent methods are explained. Partial differential equations are treated generally comparing important methods, and equations of motion are solved by a large number of simple as well as more sophisticated methods. Several modern algorithms for quantum wavepacket motion are compared. The first part of the book discusses the basic numerical methods, while the second part simulates classical and quantum systems. Simple but non-trivial examples from a broad range of physical topics offer readers insights into the numerical treatment but also the simulated problems. Rotational motion is studied in detail, as are simple quantum systems. A two-level system in an external field demonstrates elementary principles from quantum optics and simulation of a quantum bit. Principles of molecular dynamics are shown. Modern bounda ry element methods are presented in addition to standard methods, and waves and diffusion processes are simulated comparing the stability and efficiency of different methods. A large number of computer experiments is provided, which can be tried out even by readers with no programming skills. Exercises in the applets complete the pedagogical treatment in the book. In the third edition Monte Carlo methods and random number generation have been updated taking recent developments into account. Krylov-space methods for eigenvalue problems are discussed in much more detail. The wavelet transformation method has been included as well as simple applications to continuum mechanics and convection-diffusion problems. Lastly, elementary quantum many-body problems demonstrate the application of variational and Monte-Carlo methods. . 410 0$aGraduate Texts in Physics,$x1868-4513 606 $aPhysics 606 $aMathematical physics 606 $aApplied mathematics 606 $aEngineering mathematics 606 $aChemistry, Physical and theoretical 606 $aNumerical and Computational Physics, Simulation$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P19021 606 $aMathematical Applications in the Physical Sciences$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/M13120 606 $aMathematical and Computational Engineering$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/T11006 606 $aTheoretical and Computational Chemistry$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/C25007 615 0$aPhysics. 615 0$aMathematical physics. 615 0$aApplied mathematics. 615 0$aEngineering mathematics. 615 0$aChemistry, Physical and theoretical. 615 14$aNumerical and Computational Physics, Simulation. 615 24$aMathematical Applications in the Physical Sciences. 615 24$aMathematical and Computational Engineering. 615 24$aTheoretical and Computational Chemistry. 676 $a530.15 700 $aScherer$b Philipp O.J$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0566029 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910254590403321 996 $aComputational Physics$92162711 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03446nam 2200733 a 450 001 9910964341903321 005 20200520144314.0 010 $a9781589013735 010 $a1589013735 010 $a9781435627437 010 $a1435627431 024 7 $a2027/heb31739 035 $a(CKB)1000000000482893 035 $a(EBL)547826 035 $a(OCoLC)652626254 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000203134 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11181018 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000203134 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10260084 035 $a(PQKB)11652680 035 $a(OCoLC)268793951 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse12065 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL547826 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10236766 035 $a(dli)HEB31739.0001.001 035 $a(MiU)MIU01200000000000000000182 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC547826 035 $a(Perlego)949497 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000482893 100 $a20050323d2005 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|||||||nn|n 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 00$aMind and context in adult second language acquisition $emethods, theory, and practice /$fCristina Sanz, editor 205 $a1st ed. 210 $aWashington, D.C. $cGeorgetown University Press$dc2005 215 $a1 online resource (345 p.) 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a9781589010703 311 08$a1589010701 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 327 $aAdult SLA / Cristina Sanz -- Research methodology / Rusan Chen -- Research methodology / Rebecca Adams, Akiko Fujii, and Alison Mackey -- Individual differences / Harriet Wood Bowden, Cristina Sanz, and Catherine A.
