Ice shelves are permanent areas of ice which float on the ocean surface while attached to the coast, and typically occur in very cold environments where perennial sea ice builds up to great thickness, and/or where glaciers flow off the land and are preserved on the ocean surface. These landscape features are relatively poorly studied in the Arctic, yet they are potentially highly sensitive indicators of climate change because they respond to changes in atmospheric, oceanic and glaciological conditions. Recent fracturing and breakup events of ice shelves in the Canadian High Arctic have attracted significant scientific and public attention, and produced large ice islands which may pose a risk to Arctic shipping and offshore infrastructure. Much has been published about Antarctic ice shelves, but to date there has not been a dedicated book about Arctic ice shelves or ice islands. This book fills that gap. 410 0$aSpringer Polar Sciences,$x2510-0475 606 $aPolar regions 606 $aGeophysics 606 $aClimate change 606 $aNature conservation 606 $aEarth sciences 606 $aPolar Geography$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/J16020 606 $aGeophysics and Environmental Physics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P32000 606 $aClimate Change/Climate Change Impacts$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/313000 606 $aNature Conservation$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/U26008 606 $aEarth Sciences, general$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/G00002 615 0$aPolar regions. 615 0$aGeophysics. 615 0$aClimate change. 615 0$aNature conservation. 615 0$aEarth sciences. 615 14$aPolar Geography. 615 24$aGeophysics and Environmental Physics. 615 24$aClimate Change/Climate Change Impacts. 615 24$aNature Conservation. 615 24$aEarth Sciences, general. 676 $a551.0911 702 $aCopland$b Luke$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 702 $aMueller$b Derek$4edt$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edt 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910253998703321 996 $aArctic Ice Shelves and Ice Islands$92504668 997 $aUNINA
