While exclusion and differential inclusion have long been features of development in the Global South, economic globalization has introduced new forms with which Global South countries must grapple. The book highlights the main policy drawbacks of most official approaches: neglect of the need to enhance the role and capacity of states, the focus on certain types of poverty alleviation strategies, and the tendency to disregard the need for productive employment generating activities and rural development. Neglect of issues of power and politics, however, is the most glaring inadequacy. Teichman argues that making progress toward inclusive development is primarily a political struggle. It requires a committed leadership with broadly based societal support - an inclusive development coalition - which includes usually small but politically important middle classes. 410 0$aPolitics, Economics, and Inclusive Development 606 $aPoverty 606 $aPolitical economy 606 $aEconomic policy 606 $aEconomic development 606 $aSocial justice 606 $aHuman rights 606 $aSocial policy 606 $aDevelopment Aid$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/913040 606 $aInternational Political Economy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/912140 606 $aDevelopment Policy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/913020 606 $aDevelopment Theory$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/913010 606 $aSocial Justice, Equality and Human Rights$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X33070 606 $aSocial Policy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W34020 615 0$aPoverty. 615 0$aPolitical economy. 615 0$aEconomic policy. 615 0$aEconomic development. 615 0$aSocial justice. 615 0$aHuman rights. 615 0$aSocial policy. 615 14$aDevelopment Aid. 615 24$aInternational Political Economy. 615 24$aDevelopment Policy. 615 24$aDevelopment Theory. 615 24$aSocial Justice, Equality and Human Rights. 615 24$aSocial Policy. 676 $a338.9 686 $aBUS092000$aPOL011000$aPOL023000$aPOL024000$aPOL029000$2bisacsh 700 $aTeichman$b Judith A$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01061599 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910253319603321 996 $aThe Politics of Inclusive Development$92519330 997 $aUNINA
