It addresses three main phases in the politicization of heredity: the peak of radical eugenics (1900-1945), characterized by an aggressive ethos of supporting the transformation of human society via biological knowledge; the repositioning, after 1945, of biological thinking into a liberal-democratic, human rights framework; and the present postgenomic crisis in which the genome can no longer be understood as insulated from environmental signals. In Political Biology, Maurizio Meloni argues that thanks to the ascendancy of epigenetics we may be witnessing a return to soft heredity - the idea that these signals can cause changes in biology that are themselves transferable to succeeding generations. This book will be of great interest to scholars across science and technology studies, the philosophy and history of science, and political and social theory. 606 $aSocial medicine 606 $aPhilosophy and science 606 $aSociology 606 $aScience?Social aspects 606 $aIntellectual life?History 606 $aLife sciences 606 $aMedical Sociology$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22150 606 $aPhilosophy of Science$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/E34000 606 $aSociology, general$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22000 606 $aSocietal Aspects of Physics, Outreach and Education$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P34000 606 $aIntellectual Studies$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/729000 606 $aLife Sciences, general$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L00004 608 $aHistory.$2fast 615 0$aSocial medicine. 615 0$aPhilosophy and science. 615 0$aSociology. 615 0$aScience?Social aspects. 615 0$aIntellectual life?History. 615 0$aLife sciences. 615 14$aMedical Sociology. 615 24$aPhilosophy of Science. 615 24$aSociology, general. 615 24$aSocietal Aspects of Physics, Outreach and Education. 615 24$aIntellectual Studies. 615 24$aLife Sciences, general. 676 $a616/.042 700 $aMeloni$b M$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01059657 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910253307303321 996 $aPolitical Biology$92507480 997 $aUNINA
