Each vertical reading analyses three same-numbered cantos from the three canticles: Inferno i, Purgatorio i and Paradiso i; Inferno ii, Purgatorio ii and Paradiso ii; etc. Although scholars have suggested before that there are correspondences between same-numbered cantos that beg to be explored, this is the first time that the approach has been pursued in a systematic fashion across the poem. This three-volume collection offers an unprecedented repertoire of vertical readings for the whole poem. Vertical reading not only articulates unexamined connections between the three canticles but also unlocks engaging new ways to enter into core concerns of the poem. The three volumes thereby provide an indispensable resource for scholars, students and enthusiasts of Dante. 610 $aItalian literature 610 $aCommedia 610 $avertical readings 610 $aDante Alighieri 610 $aInferno 610 $acomparative 610 $aPurgatorio 610 $aParadiso 610 $aItalian poetry 676 $a851.1 700 $aCorbett$b George$0994145 702 $aCorbett$b George 702 $aWebb$b Heather$f1976- 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910245735703321 996 $aVertical readings in Dante's Comedy$92276821 997 $aUNINA
