The author uses panel survey data with internationally comparable questions on disability for Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda. It presents evidence on the prevalence of disability and its strong and consistent association with multidimensional poverty, mortality, economic insecurity and deprivations in education, morbidity and employment. It shows that disability needs to be considered from multiple angles including aging, gender, health and poverty. Ultimately, this study makes a call for inclusion and prevention interventions as solutions to the deprivations associated with impairments and health conditions. . 410 0$aPalgrave Studies in Disability and International Development,$x2945-6622 606 $aEconomic development 606 $aSocial medicine 606 $aAfrica$xEconomic conditions 606 $aDevelopment Studies 606 $aHealth, Medicine and Society 606 $aAfrican Economics 615 0$aEconomic development. 615 0$aSocial medicine. 615 0$aAfrica$xEconomic conditions. 615 14$aDevelopment Studies. 615 24$aHealth, Medicine and Society. 615 24$aAfrican Economics. 676 $a338.9 686 $aBUS069000$aSOC000000$aSOC026000$aSOC029000$aSOC042000$2bisacsh 700 $aMitra$b Sophie$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0888221 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910231246603321 996 $aDisability, Health and Human Development$91984121 997 $aUNINA
