The author uses panel survey data with internationally comparable questions on disability for Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda. It presents evidence on the prevalence of disability and its strong and consistent association with multidimensional poverty, mortality, economic insecurity and deprivations in education, morbidity and employment. It shows that disability needs to be considered from multiple angles including aging, gender, health and poverty. Ultimately, this study makes a call for inclusion and prevention interventions as solutions to the deprivations associated with impairments and health conditions. . 410 0$aPalgrave Studies in Disability and International Development 606 $aEconomic development 606 $aSocial change 606 $aPeople with disabilities 606 $aEconomic policy 606 $aAfrica?Economic conditions 606 $aDevelopment and Social Change$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/913030 606 $aDisability Studies$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X22280 606 $aDevelopment Policy$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/913020 606 $aDevelopment and Health$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/913060 606 $aAfrican Economics$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W45020 606 $aDevelopment Theory$3https://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/913010 607 $aEthiopia 607 $aMalawi 607 $aTanzania 607 $aUganda 607 $aAfrica$2fast 607 $aDeveloping countries$2fast 610 $adevelopment 610 $amortality 610 $aSen?s capability approach 610 $aeconomic insecurity 610 $apoverty 615 0$aEconomic development. 615 0$aSocial change. 615 0$aPeople with disabilities. 615 0$aEconomic policy. 615 0$aAfrica?Economic conditions. 615 14$aDevelopment and Social Change. 615 24$aDisability Studies. 615 24$aDevelopment Policy. 615 24$aDevelopment and Health. 615 24$aAfrican Economics. 615 24$aDevelopment Theory. 676 $a338.9 700 $aMitra$b Sophie$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0888221 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910231246603321 996 $aDisability, Health and Human Development$91984121 997 $aUNINA
